Truth the Movie, and Truth and What is it.

There is a MOVIE titled TRUTH and being released in the United Stated on October 16th, 2015. The movie stars Kate Blanchette and Robert Redford and I hear both of them are superb. Kate Blanchette has a string of awards from the USA, UK, France and Australia. So many people may want to see her. The story is about journalism and truth-seeking. I watch almost no movies, but this is my kind of movie. I hope this movie is a lot of people’s kind of movie. I do not want to color anyone’s perception before you see the movie, but I am an American and it is also about an American President, so if someone wants more information, I will answer as best I know.

I think the movie is worth seeing. The second part of the question is about Truth and what it is. I remember when I trusted the NEWS in the newspaper and on television. I wish I still did. I remember when I trusted books that said NONFICTION. Now I believe that TRUTH is a sacred but ELUSIVE thing. I don’t expect to have the only truth or YOUR truth so you can feel free to challenge anything and everything I say. I like to hear YOUR TRUTH. Somewhere, if we kick it around enough, we may find some TRUTH.

This movie may be an entertaining and beautiful way of seeing and learning history. I hear the movie was filmed in Australia, but the story happened in the USA. What does that say about truth, but I saw a trailer and it looked like the USA. I read that Kate Blanchette lives in Australia and she wanted to stay near her home. That doesn’t seem to make sense, but who says Truth has to make sense to you or me. I think the movie is definitely worth seeing. we can all see it and share our opinions here.

  1. Hi Rose,

in my opinion the story should be true or even have a true background in some way.

The Americans produced Karl May films in the former Jugoslavia and not in Texas.
The truth is a story itself and the only thing that can be done with it, it can be falsified.

    1. Thank you Michael. Art imitating life imitating art. There is a lot of imitation, which is not real. It did puzzle me that Americans would go all the way to Australia to make a movie about Americans, but I also thought it would add interest and information.

  2. Rose:
    1. First of all, if Robert Redford is going to be in the film–I’m there!
    2. The location of the film doesn’t really matter to me, as even though it is a reflection of a true story, its still just a movie–and thus, really a piece of art.
    3. While America holds firm its commitment to its freedom of speech, certainly those at many levels of politics, journalism, the service and business industry see the complicated dynamic as well as its often dramatic consequences.
    4. There is also the question: what right does the American public have to know all such factors of truth, and at what point is such information pertinent to the real issue, beyond the obvious really good story? Once a can of worms has opened, however, it always seems to become free game.
    5. Truth can be subjective. Sometimes truth is not understood in its full context. Sometimes one truth can lead to others, and can be more damaging than helpful.
Ive always been a seeker of truth. However, I’ve also been in situations where it had to be very carefully presented. (a good vocabulary is then very helpful!). The overall picture needs to be considered by those with a broad understanding, and an overall good will. There are some who enjoy the bliss of ignorance. It reminds me of the early American poet Emily Dickinson in her words ” tell the truth, but tell it slant……”

  3. Catalpa, first, maybe Robert Redford will draw the women and Kate Blanchette will draw the women. I hope this movie does well so that more films of this type will be made.
American and others have freedom of speech, but speech has consequences even if no laws were broken.
I like what you said about truth and I appreciate your ideas.

    1. Lani, my knowledge of movies and movie stars is very limited, but you are right and she is expected to get another award. Good acting makes a big difference. You can watch a trailer on you
      tube. It looks great.

  4. Hi Rose,You raise such an important aspect of ourselves when you ask for a mix of how we see Truth and it got me to thinking just how deep this simple word Truth is.
I believe,Truths are a part of ones state of being where ones life is guided by what feels comfortable with and enables standards of morality, ethics and honour to rule ones daily life.
Can these things be realised if one was Untrue ? Think of living Untruths, you would have to agree that they would collapse as they have no sustainable structure.
Truths can be practised, they can be demonstrated and they enable Trust.
Hope you enjoy the movie when you get to see it.

  5. Sylvester. I was in a hurry in the above comment. You really thought deeply about truth and also the opposite of truth. Yes. we are living a lie and our life must lack foundation and I think it would have to fail. I hope you would write your thoughts more completely in a blog. What is truth, is a question for all of us and at least we should know our own truth.

    1. Hi Rose,You raise a contentious point where you say we live in a lie and failure is inevitable, maybe I`ve misinterpreted.Again just my belief, another persons Truth may differ from our own,but it serves that person through life and its probably no better or worse than our own Truths provided a decent human being is guardian to those his or her Truths.History is abundant where ones Truths have been coerced on another and usually resulting in tragedy,I think the secret is to accept or at least tolerate anothers Truths as they do ours and as I previously said,a decent human being, like we see ourselves is custodian of different Truths.

      1. Sylvester. I guess I need to read and edit better. I was agreeing with you and I meant to say IF we are living a lie. I just talked to a person today who told me in one breath she has read over 100 books since July and she doesn’t have time to talk to relatives because she has her large home and other duties. I have never heard this person say, “I am reading a book” or I have never heard her sharing a book.People contradict themselves and make little sense when they try to create themselves as they want to appear. This person lives a sober and productive life and I think it is sad that she does not see her own worth.
Playing with reality is not a good idea.
