Treasures

Each of us has his or her own definition of the word treasure.  To some, this might mean a fat savings account. Or maybe a cherished hand-finished oldtimer car. A favorite faded old ZZ Top concert t-shirt or even a few pairs of old worn-out jeans, ripped in just the right places. To others, a treasure might mean a forgotten old photo or a long lost baseball.

My treasure is having had the chance to share my life with a dream.  Not a day passed that I have not felt the warmth of her breath against the nape of my neck while we slept. Not an hour passes that I do not see a small reminder of her around me in some form or another. Bed pillows turned a certain way, a song playing on the radio, even the soft muffled sound of the dryer tumbling its contents about.

My Treasures are my memories, which can never be taken from me.  One day I will be with my treasure but for now, I will just sit back on my sofa, stroke my purring cat, take a sip of my Irish coffee and close my eyes and smile…

  1. Oh this was a wonderful read, Night. Memories are the only thing that we take from one place to another without a suitcase. A lost partner of love is never gone as you have clearly shared here. Thank you for sharing. I am sorry for your loss.

    1. try it. Looking at the reflection of yourself in a mirror can either warm your heart and soul or scare the living crap out of you. Then to having the strength to be truthful to your own gazing eyes can lead you to become all that you have ever dreamed to be.
Thank you for your kind words
