Thinking of Oneself

Here we spend most of our time thinking about others. How to help them. How to support them. Sometimes just trying to understand them. But every once in awhile we all need some “me time.” In our daily lives we are confronted by negativity without fail. From family to friends to co-workers to strangers. That negativity builds up and does no-one any good. It clouds our judgment, alters our responses, and changes our outlook on everything we do. As adults we can’t throw tantrums or just plain rant and rave without causing more bad vibes to come our way.

What I have found helpful is simply writing it out on paper. Rage or curse or indulge in a little self-pity. Grammar and spelling don’t matter. After all your anger or doubt has been recorded, destroy the paper in its entirety. I like burning it and tossing the ashes to the four winds. As the paper goes so goes the bad feelings. Leaving you free to start anew.

No bitterness, no harsh words, no added negativity. Give it a try, and think of yourself for a moment.

  2. You make very good points here! We are all only human, the emotions you listed are common to all of us. They do indeed cloud our judgment! Taking a break, to get a better perspective, and to avoid causing more trouble for self and others…yes, excellent idea!

  3. Hi Jackie – well put – I have been doing that for more years than I care to count. I have made books out of some of the results – add pictures, and i have something to look back on and realise how much I got rid of! lol.. Makes me twice as happy in the NOW… thanks for the post,…Lina xxx

  4. Just read this, and it speaks to me!!!
All the destructive emotions and mental states are essentially distorted, whereas the antidotes, such as love, compassion and insight, are undistorted and based on how thing realy are.
2; The antidotes have the quality of being strengthened through training and practise.
3;The essential nature of the mind is pure and undefiled by the destructive emotions.
I would just like to say this speaks to me! and i am not speaking for anyone else, just me,thank you.
