Sometimes… a Picture Says a 1000 Words

I have always been very fond of pictures like this! A special thank you Maize for sharing it in the Members Café Group! Per Maize, “I’m an admirer of the work of Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, working with the fisher folk of Yorkshire in Victorian times. This old man’s face is wonderful!”

I AM VERY SORRY, TRIED AND TRIED TO GET THE PICTURE IN! HONEST!!! LOL… WOULD YOU BE SO KIND TO GO TO THE MEMBERS CAFE GROUP AND SEE MAIZE’S ORIGINAL POST. WILL POST MY BLOG THERE AS WELL. TY.

Now, some may say that he is indeed representative of a typical fisher folk of Yorkshire or the likes. And I wouldn’t disagree. But, if you take a closer look, one might wonder if he had worked a farm all his life – loving the feel of the soil in his hands, a deep satisfaction in his heart for the land he so truly loved. Or had he been a peddler of pots and pans, or alcohol potions strictly for medicinal purposes of course! Had he been a teacher developing and shaping the minds of the young in a one room school house…what would a teacher have looked like back then? Was he a butcher, thief or candlestick maker? Did he roam from place to place, calling nowhere home, living off the land? Perhaps nothing more than a mere “hand” at the nearest livery stable, cleaning and swilling horse and stalls day after day? Had he been the equivalent of a constable, swift justice the rule of the day? Did he scribble words on paper that later became stories and novels never realizing the impact his work would later have on society? Was he a “Mark Twain” or “Charles Dickens?” Were his hands that of a surgeon but cut only meat and poultry as a butcher, or had he forged new paths in medicine with those skillful mitts of his? Did he live a gypsy life with a colorful caravan? Were his days filled with ledgers and counting and figures? Did he become bored with that? Did he dream of faraway places? Dream of a different life? Was he a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather perhaps? Was he content and happy? Had the years taken a toll on him? Did he go to his maker with peace in his heart? Faces of days gone by…interesting, intriguing…of that I have little doubt. How about you?
