Really! I didn’t know!
I posted this in the group “My Most Embarrassing Moment”. Ahh, I have many….
I’d like to share with you about getting Steve Martin’s stand-up comedy album for Christmas. I was 16 or 17.
I’d been hearing jokes, and parts of stories from his “Wild and Crazy Guy” album on the radio for a while. I thought his comedy was hilarious! So, I asked to get that album for Christmas, and I did!
However…..on the radio, they only played clips that were fairly clean. So, I wasn’t even aware that he had some sexual/crude jokes.
Christmas afternoon, I wanted my family to listen to some of my new album with me, so they could get a laugh too.
So we all sat down… Mom, Dad, little bother and little sister and me. Started the album… all was fine, even a few giggles, until the first blatant sex joke and curse word. Wooo! My Dad was mad! Jerked that album off the turntable real quick! I insisted that I didn’t know about the nasty parts on the album. I can’t remember if my parents ever believed me or not!
Still makes me laugh to this day…..
I imagine you were so embarrassed Kay. Who gave you the album lol? I can just see your face in front of everyone when the ” Maritn Bloop” rolled by lol. Good post Kay, thank you for sharing 🙂
Thank J!
I can’t imagine, I was always so scared my mom would hear the music that I loved way back then, my kids never cared to hide their music from me, though I wished some times they did! lol, keep writing your stories they all take me back to somewhere or something in my past!
Hahaha Maggie! I will have to send you “Naive and not sure of the Words”. Thanks for reading and commenting.
What a hilarious innocent thing to do; than goodness with the passage of time we are able to look back on these gaffes with humor. And well told too. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Oldbull. 🙂
I know that feeling all too well Kay – I was quite a bit older but just as “caught out”… I was working as a Radio Presenter at our local community radio station – had not long passed my test etc…and was still a little nervous abut doing the wrong thing… I was so careful in my choice of music – usually… this day i had been given a copy of “Living Next Door To Alice”… I’d heard it before and it was harmless…on the versions I’d heard that is…. I discovered that every time they said “living next door to Alice” – very loudly and clearly I heard “Who the F*** is Alice?”…..I panicked after the first one and pressed the wrong button to try and cut if off air, the next one seemed to come around very quickly… after three I finally managed, but was a nervous wreck by then.. i could see them in the office and they were killing themselves laughing! Not too sure how many listeners agreed and at that stage nor did I… Never again did I put on a CD that I had not listened to, carefully, first….. memories… xxxx
Thanks Lina, and your story is sooo funny!
Good stories Kay and Lina.. I did something similar a few years back when I rec’d James Blunt’s cd and I was playing ‘You’re Beautiful’ in my car full blast w/ my kids in there. Had no idea that on the radio where he sings… “She could see from my face that i was Flying high” the word was really “F***ing” high.. I was more mortified than embarrassed & apologized to the kids. .Tried not to ever do that again w/o checking lyrics ahead of time.. ugh..
Hahaha Millie. I have done something like that too! So much for being a good example to my children, lol. 🙂 Thanks for reading and commenting.
