OMG NANNA FORGOT

My daughter and I have an arrangement. I have the clothes dryer, she has the washing machine. So she does my washing and I put her clothes through the dryer.

So every Sunday they come round for lunch, and while the two grandchildren hurtle up and down my driveway on their bikes we put the washing through the dryer then have lunch. (The boy is 8 and the girl is 3, and ride those bikes like they are driving F1 cars lol).

And the menu is always macaroni cheese, cheese and ham pie and home made bread. And no I don’t slave over a bench kneading my morning away lol, I have a bread maker lol.

Well today Nanna decided to have a change. Bacon and egg pie with fresh bread.

‘Can we have some hot chips to?’ begged my grandaughter. With that smile and sweet voice how could I refuse.

So I set about taking the deep fryer, (my trusty old saucepan, nothing fancy), out of the cupboard and putting together the pie.

In went the pastry, grated cheese, bacon, eggs and more pastry. Slide it into the oven and in 45 minutes Bob’s your uncle, a home made pie. (Actually I had an uncle named Bob lol and he loved pie lol).

My daughter was sitting at the table sipping a cup of coffee and I couldn’t figure out why she was smirking away behind the steam.

I threw a packet of frozen chips into the hot oil, sliced the bread and got the plates out.

OK. Chips drained and salted and on the plates, bread, margarine, sauce, salt and cutlery on the table.

Took the pie out of the oven and to my horror it was still as uncooked as it went in. By this time my grandchildren were at the table and my daughter, who is supposed to love me lol, is in absolute hysterics and nearly falling off her chair laughing.

I had forgotten to turn the oven on!!!! Why did I not notice when I put the pie in? I have no idea, my glasses didn’t even fog up which should have been a warning sign lol.

So for 50 minutes my daughter had been sitting there watching me, just waiting for me to take my ‘cooked’ pie out of the oven.

After we had finished laughing, the oven was heated and in went the pie. Again lol.

Now my grandchildren were absolutely delighted, because they had two lunches an hour apart lol. And the pie tasted delicious.

One of my favorite sayings is I am going to live long enough to follow my daughter round and laugh at her as she brings up her children.

But every now and again she gets her own back lol.
