just a wee ditty

The kite

Come sit with me for a little while
I’ll tell you a story that’ll make you smile
And when you’ve heard it you’ll laugh out loud
So don’t think about it when your in a crowd

My story starts on an autumn’s day
The wind was blowing the clouds away
I was walking along, feeling full of joy
When I heard this cry from this little boy

Help me, help me, help me, please
Said the boy, who was on his knees
What the matter are you all right?
He started screaming, I’ve lost my kite

As I looked down, he got up on one knee
Then pointed up high, to this great big tree
And there in the branches just to the right
I could see the tail, of this bright red kite

Go get it get it get it he said?
Staring at me with his eyes so red
What would you do if you were me
I had no choice but to climb the tree

It was easy at first , no trouble at all
Until I started thinking, what if I fall
I started to imagine, what the headlines would be
Stupid thick bloke, falls out of tree

Hurry up hurry up, I heard the boy shout
If I were down there, he’d have a red snout
At last I could see the tail of the kite
I thought thank the Lord, I’ll be alright

I crawled the branch, afraid to look down
Glad of one thing, that my trousers were brown
I grabbed the kite and threw it to the boy
Who leaped up and down, so full of joy

I felt so pleased, at the deed I’d done
But suddenly realised, my nightmare’s begun
For I was stuck up a tree, now afraid to move
From the branch you see, my hands wouldn’t remove

Help me help me, I shouted to the boy
Who stood below cuddling his toy
What happened next I can hear you all say
The little bugga laughed, then just walked away
