Guns

I wish that guns were the real issue with what happen in CT but in truth their not.the real issue is that a person with mental illness that was apparent for some time according to the neighbors
Was not addressed .i can’t wrap my mind around why a mother who ia aware that their child
Has issues would allow guns of that type to be anywhere but locked away or disabled.
We need to address the real issues of mental health and responsibility for treatment and be more careful about screening are children for problem and making sure their addressed .we also need more school programs on avoiding violence and bullying. Guns are only a symbol of our
Failure to respond properly to the needs of are fellow man.

  1. They say “Guns don’t kill people. People kill people”.

That’s true, but only up to a point. The access of the demented and the vicious to arms is the real criterion.

In the UK firearms (except shotguns) are effectively banned, but still they can be accessed for a few pounds. We cannot un-invent that which has already been invented. All we can do is try to keep those inventions out of the hands of the those who would use them incorrectly.

Some system of evaluation. Not of their law abidingness (is that a word?) but of their mental state really has to be brought in before legally obtaining arms.

It won’t be perfect, we all know that, but it has to be better than the systems in place both here and the USA.

Such tragedies will happen again and again until something of the sort is put in place. They will happen even then, I fear, but, hopefully, less often.

    1. I agree wholeheartedly way!!…We have very strict gun laws here and it is very rare to have such horrendous shootings as they do in the USA….the fact is that guns do kill people and the easier access that people have to them only makes it easier for anyone in a temper rage or whatever to use a gun…right to bear arms…yeah!

  2. American culture is obssessed with guns. They have huge gun and knife shows every year all over the country.

I get the 2nd amendment – that citizens have the right to bear arms – but why do you need the kind of assault rifles that only the army should be allowed to use. Accessibility to these weapons are all too easy to obtain. The powers that be must get serious about gun laws. There’s a lot of debate and politicking about the subject year in and year out and meanwhile innocent children are paying the price with their lives.

Not all these evildoers who perpetuate these mass-murders ARE mentally deranged. Youths with social problems living on a steady diet of violent computer games AND seeing all the publicity other mass-murderers get, are obvious desensitized to the solemnity of life. They PLAN and set out to kill and go out in a blaze of “glory”. Responsibility must squarely be layed on them. Stop glamorizing senseless violence in the movies and in society. Stop the madness!

  3. Guns in America should have the same regulations as in the UK. Locked in a gun cupboard with the key placed in a safe place where children cant get reach it
i dont know what regulation the USA have, i do.nt think anyone should walkoff the street and buy a gun, and also all firearmsshould be banned from being sold on the internet
i think a lisence with a police certificate should be issued and all non registard guns be confiscated untill such certifcates are issued.
The only people in the UK who have guns are Farmers, Gamekeepers and anyone who is a member of a gun club and these folk have police certificates.
And only after Police enqiries and the reason for holding a fire ams are the licences issued

  4. After these mass shootings have occurred, people come out of the woodwork to tell us in the media……..well he was an odd bod…….always knew there was something wrong with him/her……..or school mates willing to tell of cruel acts inflicted on animals by the gunman that they had witnessed many years before ,………..but………until a crime has been committed it is very very hard to get someone committed to an institution or hospital for mental health issues……….been there done that in my career……..and after weeks of assessment, it may or may not be decided that the person is a danger to the public and admitted……. we all know that many get released again after the powers that be decide they are no longer a danger……yeah right…….as for obtaining firearms……..you got the money……..you got the gun…….don’t have the answer………
