Good name for a Girl?
Okay friends, I have something else to share from my “Truth is stranger and funnier than fiction” file! This is a bit embarrassing, and so dumb that I hope I don’t lose any of my friends over it! 🙂 Oh well, I’ll take my chances.
If you have never noticed, many little girls start very young imagining what it will be like to grow up, get married, and start having babies. A lot of us had our future children’s names chosen before we were out of elementary school!
I was no exception. I wanted a name for my future daughter, that sounded beautiful, was different than other names, without being just plain weird! I came up with “Latrine”. Sounds kind of…French, doesn’t it? Could be spelled “La Trene” or “Latreen”.
I was very upset when I learned what a latrine is.
Give me a break, I was only about nine!
Happy Mother’s Day, and I hope you and your kids choose appropriate names for the future generations, names that won’t bring them ridicule when they grow up! 😉
My one and only daughter is Angela, you might be relieved to know.
(I wrote this several years ago, and just decided to share the goofiness with my friends here. -KayBee)

Very relieved you changed your mind about names!!! Fortunately we are not held responsible for the oddities of our childhood…. thanks for sharing, it was fun to read…. xxxxxx
Thanks Lina! 🙂
My daughter had one name she liked… Jennifer. Every doll (including Barbie) was named Jennifer. Her daughter’s name…Raven. Guess she burned out on Jennifer. Happy Mother’s Day!
That’s cute Jackie. Yep, she must have worn “Jennifer” out. 🙂
Well that does it for me.. I can’t be friends anymore w/ someone who would name their daughter Latrine. I mean I have to think of my reputation. It was nice knowing you tho, Kay. Have a good life 🙂 Seriously what did u end up naming your daughter? Hoping u found out the meaning BEFORE you had children. haha. Great blog, Kay.. made me laugh 😛
Hahaha! MIllie…DON’T LEAVE ME! Check out the next to last sentence again…I reveal my daughter’s name. 🙂 Glad to make you laugh.
Hahahahhahha kay love it, i was going to call my daughter Tiffany, my friends said oh no she will get fanny, in oz fanny means something different to usa lol. My daughter Michelle is much relieved!!!
Oh Skippy, thanks for reading. True, we don’t have many Fanny’s here in the US, for the reason you stated lol.
Never had daughters, but i always thought Budica or Jezebell would have been really cute names, lol
Cute Waylander, but those names may have caused daughters to need therapy when they became adults. Hahaha
Enjoyed the read, Kay, thanks for posting.
Thanks Merver, and you’re welcome.
A great story kay and funnily enough if I had had a daughter I had Tiffany (as skip had) and decided against it for the same reason. I’m also an Aussie lol xox
Pineapple is a lovely name for a girl 🙂
Sounds good to me! Hahahaha. I’ve heard worse.
so funny
I never had any sons to name after me as I was named after my father Felix so I tried to get one of my daughters to name their girls Felicity but no luck with that. lol Good write Kay.
