English…more than just a language

Many thanks for all the ideas, new views and interpretations of this topic.

Since many years we cultivate an intensive better to know, better understand
of nationalities by meetings in different parts of the globe.

The main topic for the end of this year was England in in all its facets from history to live in and to live with. English people are very proud of their long lasting history and the main arguably theme ** The englisch language ** came up on the table.

One member, a respectable gentleman who has grown up in the Mercyside administrative district kept his view on the point that any english people can be affiliated to the region he comes from?

That was the kick-off for an intensive discussion as you may can imagine.

An other gentleman whom I appreciative of his personality and his distinguished university career added fuel to the fire when he alleged that any english person can be uniquely defined by the chosen vocabulary, yes even the pronunciation gives witness of the school or university that person has gone to and if this person belongs to the lower, middle or upper class.
For his conviction he was very proud on himself combining each of his
arguments with an anecdote out of his life.

His little speech ended with that memorable sentence:

!! I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it !!

And now Ladies and Gentlemen please tell me an other country where a sentence like this
could ever been spoken in a parliament?
