Energy Costs

just joined so not sure how this all works. I started by opening up the politics forum, only to find that there are only 4 postings since 2019, the last being june 2021. so not a popular topic.

What I am interested to know is if anyone else is frustrated with this talk about phasing out gas boilers.

Being that the unit price of electricity is 5 times higher than gas, if I were to heat my house purely on electricity, the energy bill would be astronomic ( unaffordable ).

so why is this not being discussed by those on politics programmes and TV news etc.

Am I not understanding something ?

  1. its a con by the goverment . same as electric cars. if everyone in britain got an electric car the electricity infrastructure would collapse,as well as there not being enough lithium on the planet to make the batteries.
gas boilers is another con, right now its only going to be banned(alledgedly) in new builds same as hydrogen, we dont have the fcilities to produce the amount of hydrogen required for large scale. but there is enough to mix with natural gas on a small scale, they already have a 20% hydrogen mix in the gateshead area. just another load of goverment promises, without any means to back it up

  2. I reckon an open fire is an option. Heat the whole house with stored wood. Just pick a location with a great view and walking distance from the pub!

  3. Being an Aussie, where central heating is almost non existent I cannot comment upon the subject of your post but I am equally perplexed about the stagnation within the chatters forums. When I first joined just a little over 12 months ago I went straight to the computing forum expecting it to be buzzing with member contributions but was sorely disappointed to find it virtually bereft of any activity whatsoever.

  4. Sadly, I will admit to starting the politics forum, in the mistaken belief that mature people could discuss politics intelligently and reasonably. I accept that I was wrong and 40+ years of left-wing closed-mindedness has proliferated to the extent that even wokeness whatever that is and extremism seem to be the norm, easier for the many to accept without question than to question and find justification.
Fortunately, Pinky realised the error of my ways and started Opinions, which seems far more acceptable, although politics is really only opinion.

Yes and no. The political institutions that devise, make, and judge the laws are intricate and need explaining if the voters, who in theory determine what laws are proposed and enacted, are to know how to use them to accomplish their goals. If some of those participating in the politics forum can ask the right questions and others can answer them, this forum can offer a service that’s educational, useful, and entertaining.

Also, when an opinion is offered, it’s up to those who may have differing opinions both to state their own positions clearly and cogently and to ask those whose opinions differ to provide evidence and reason where those may be lacking.

Good dialogue should never be simply stating opinions without giving supporting evidence and supplying reasonable arguments.
