blog boo hiss bah

I cannot see one advantage to the new blog format. I know the intention Is to have more topics in less space; well it doesn’t work. We have that on the Home page. I find this new blog format
not worth the time and effort. I won’t be using it much; I do not believe. It is not a matter of a change, it is that I do not like the change.

  1. Oh Rose, there are some positives in the new format …it’s easier to go back to previous blogs we may have missed on reading , by reading the first paragraph ,we have an idea of whats all about and keep on reading if we are interested .
What I really miss on the new format is the name of the author and picture on the top . I have my favorites and sometimes I read a blog just because I like the author .
I also miss the random blogs feature we used to have previously .

      1. @Rob Thats much better. I also missed the avatar and knew it would get corrected eventually 🙂

While I’m here Rob, can you take a look at ‘friendships’ list. At first I thought that our friends were in order or last active, then noticed their posts and thought these were their LAST posts. But not so. Some are months ago. Very off putting. Can you have a look at that please?
        Thanks

        1. @roseinbloom I’ve added a splash of background colour to blog comments as requested, and a little bit of box shadow for good measure 🙂 You may need to refresh the page (CTRL F5) to see the changes. Let me know what you think?

Still YUK or looking more YUMMY 🙂

          1. ‘Yummy’ is saved for chocolate Rob… lol
            But looks much better .
Now… how about the ‘friendships’ list 🙂 😉

          2. Thank you. Yummy. I am grateful, Rob, that you listen so well and are ready to respond in a positive way quickly and effectively. I find the blog site better and I am adjusting to changes.

    1. Sassy, Rob does great things, but if you told me what you liked, it would be helpful. I don’t like it because it makes changes that I don’t like. I loved the blog the way it was, and I used it fairly often. I am just passing an opinion and others have theirs, We all pay our dues and I am Sure Rob wants to make us all as happy as possible.

      1. 1. You are NOW able to locate blogs much easier by pages now. The other way you had to scroll to the bottom and wait for the next page to load …and keep repeating that process to search for older blogs. (that was a negative thing I hated searching for older blogs because the process took so long)
        2. Like the fact that the first 5 lines of the blog are visible… compelling the authors to capture your attention quickly. Touché for that !! (I for one lose interest when ppl post a prelude to a novel)
        3. The author of the blog now appears above “leave a reply”… folks just have to adjust to looking in the right spot. (No big deal) life is an adjustment.

        1. I know ,I’ve seen it … But I looked hard believe me ! and found it by chance . I much prefer the previous way were you could see it at a glance with the avatar next to the name ..

  2. I know I havn’t been on the site a long time. But everyday wether i go in the chat room or not I have always read the blogs. I loved just being able to see who wrote what and how many comments. Now it looks fancier, but I hate it. “THEY” have done the same with my newspaper as well and I just want to scream at them. I’ve always liked change. Change or die I used to say. I must be getting old. Oh no what’s to become of me. Aaaaarrrrggghhh!

  3. Rose unfortunately Rob cant make veryone happy and for every one who hates changes there is possibly one who loves it. I think, given time, we can all get used to new things and new ways…just a matter of perseverance and stubborn determination…lol

  4. Yuck! I don’t like the site at all. It looks like unfinished construction. I kept looking for more stuff to be done and now I find out that this is it. It doesn’t look professional at all. Just like someone threw together a site and decided to charge money to join.

      1. Thanks for your feedback @Blush @roseinbloom. Perhaps if you tell me exactly what you do not like I can work on improving things for you? As for the site being ‘Unfinished’ I can appreciate what you’re saying, because it’s not. Unfortunately, I haven’t got a development team to speed the process up. So, I’m sorry if progress is slow.

I’ve now added the Blog Author Avatar to the top of the post and have also brought back the Random Blog post section to the login homepage. Hope that’s a start…

        1. Rob, Hey, I just thought the site looked nicer before the changes. It looks incomplete to me now. It seems like the graphics are gone and no color. All the appropriate information is still there, but it just looks cheap to me. But honestly…. you and I have been down this path before, and opinions still are on separate planets. Will the stripped down look stop me from coming into SC…..no.

        2. Rob, I am so impressed with you and your changes. I am on a chromebook right now and cannot clean out any caches. As for changes, the first page should look more like the second page except for the full blog and all the replies. Is it possible to do a hyperlink for replies or at least do a larger type and color. Did you add avatar and author to the first page? This is already better so I am glad I spoke up and that you heard me very clearly. I am pleased and very impressed.Thank you.

  5. Faye are you Robs biggest fan? You are not listening to what others say. Its just rob knows and thats ok. Is he paying you to be blind to other peoples feelings? Or are you so infatuated with him you’l agree with anything he decides? I know its early days with it, but there are more dislikes to likes. This is a chat site. Not a cult where rob is god. Sorry for being so blunt, but girl, get a grip.

  6. Sorry Blinker, but as owner of the site Rob does have the final say. Yes, those who have commented are not terribly fond of the way it is now…there is still quite a few regulars who have said nothing. Im sure if enough of the bloggers say they have a terrible dislike of the present format Rob will attempt to make some changes if possible. but I very much doubt if they will be to everyones liking no matter what he does. And to answer your question…yes I am a big fan of Robs. I admire the way he began this site from next to nothing and has built it up as he has done much of it at his own expense. I also admire the way he trys to make things better as upgrades become available to him and then keeps his cool when a handful of people do nothing but complain and threaten if it is not to their liking. To those people I say there is a Log Out on this site and if they don’t like the way things are run I suggest they use it.

    1. Faye, By no means did my post reflect any personal opinions about you and Rob. What the heck…… we all know you have been Rob’s right hand-woman for a very long time. The personal relationship that you have with him has been ongoing for a very long time. What would Rob do without you!!!! And quite frankly, Rob is nice looking… too bad he’s married…..;) hahahahahaha!!!!! Sending hugs!!!! cc

    2. Faye, I think your language is harsh. Rob is very calm and can see that people have valid opinions. You seem to be casting aspersions at all who complained without considering the validity of the complaint.
I think I have never complained before and I have made no threats of any kind.To say I probably won’t use it was simply a statement. I hope we are able to make a comment on what we like or don’t
without someone getting hostile and mean spirited.

  7. Well said, Faye. You have a way of putting things in perspective which I suspect has nothing to do w/ being “infatuated” w/ Rob. I personally get a bit intimidated when I have to navigate thru new upgrades (mostly b/c I’m a bit techno impaired) but I can appreciate that he does it either b/c he thinks it’s best for the site or he’s trying something new to see how people like it. I think it’s all well and good to voice your concerns but when you start disparaging others that’s not cool. And for the record, Faye, I don’t think there’s anything wrong w/ your “grip”. lol

  8. Oh ,Faye perhaps you need to clarify your position on the site , are you the assigned spokesman for Rob or have you assumed the role due to your seniority on here ? Whichever the way you could have used a different tactic to deal with members complains . I’m sure Rob can take a bit a controversy … We know he has created a great site and he is constantly working on it … And let’s face , how good would the site be if he never had any feedback ,and acted upon them ? We all know this is not a personal attack on anyone … So why then tell members who speak up to shut up or get out ? What kind of people’s skills is that ?
I was actually wondering myself what would make you behave like Rob’s bodyguard ? Ready to draw out the sword and fight ! Lol … Let’s not make this a personal issue … It’s the new format we are talking about …and what members like or dislike about it ! That’s all ! 🙂

  9. Referring to the Log Out button was a general comment Nmod and aimed at anyone who dislikes the site as a whole…not just one area….but, it was a personal observation….not one santcioned by Rob. Yes I do have seniority here having been here since the site began and, although trusted by Rob to do my job as Admin, I in no way talk for him or on his behalf. After watching this site evolve from a puny little skeleton of a place to what it is now I tend to get a little tichy if someone criticizes changes made with the aim of improving the experiences of Members while also being cost effective. It seems that similar conversations arise almost every time an upgrade is done…some like some don’t….and you will also have noticed that if things don’t work as they should Rob alters them until they do. My apoligies if my previous comments seemed a little “short”…it wasn’t intended….:-)

  10. i have been away for awhile and every time i come in to see what’s what there is a fuss going on in blogs…i have been a member for awhile and this place wouldn’t run as well without faye….what she does behind the scenes is amazing,to say the least….and believe me,nobody else would want to do the work faye does…along with all the help of the other admins and room monitors…i don’t like change any more than the next person but technology is constantly changing and i’m sure rob is swimming as fast and as best as he can in the technology pool…let’s try and help each other along during these changes…and if you want to vent without writing a blog just PM me..i’m a good listener….and being as i’m slightly senile i’ll probably forget what it was that was vented…lol…group hug and pass the refreshments …lol

  11. Faye, I have to agree with nmod re your remark: “a handful of people do nothing but complain and threaten if it is not to their liking. To those people I say there is a Log Out on this site and if they don’t like the way things are run I suggest they use it.”
Those handful of people Have done something…. they have PAID a subscription to be a member of Senior Chatters, and therefore have a say as a member on their opinions of likes and dislikes on how the site is run. Rob has formed a beautiful site here and remains the founder, but by charging a membership fee is almost the same as buying a share in a company.
You may be an Admin, Faye, but you were very wrong to suggest that if a ‘member’ complains, they should ‘Log Out ‘ of the site.
Remember that without the paying members, there would be no Senior Chatters.

And fyi I understand that with any change there are many many teething problems, and maybe members could be a little more patient until they are ironed out.
I’m sure it will all turn out okay. 🙂

    1. Polly, I don’t think the comments were directed at those who simply voiced a complaint or a concern. I read it as directed at some who did more of a personal attack on one who was trying to explain why some changes were made and then defending (whether it was perceived that it was needed or not) the one who made the changes. As stated before, it’s fine to state your objections, concerns, dislike, etc.. but when you make it personal that’s when it becomes off limits and I think Faye showed a lot of class and restraint in her answers. It’s doubtful anyone would take the time to answer each concern if they didn’t care about the site and the people on it.

  12. Polly Im sorry you misunderstood my comment. What I was saying really was that no-one is compelled to stay with the site…..it is their option. Personally, I would sooner help them solve any problems they have and have done so in the past. There are some though that simply don’t want help, and would sooner make a lot of noise and stir things up just for the hell of it…LOL

  13. I havent been here for a few days and must admit I don’t like the changes. The new blog format isn’t (in my opinion) as good as the old one was. Sometimes change is good this I feel isn’t.

  14. Oops ! The new look blog page needs a bit of fine tuning ! See the name and avatar of the blogger doesn’t appear on the page as you open it ,but after you click the blog to read ! It would be great if it did at the start 🙂 , but hey I don’t want to appear pushy ! lol lol … It’s a great improvement ALREADY !
    Thank you Rob !

  15. Lovely faye. You can have your say but in the end shut up, or ship out. That makes me feel soooo wanted. Voicing an opinion is now complaining. Yet you are voicing opinions of me, is that complaing also. Your right the site is great and I enjoy being on it. I’m sure as rob is so clever he does not need you or anyone else to zealously defend him. Unless your being paid to do it. Like I said before. Get a grip girl.

      1. No faye.Obviously its just taken you. I do wonder who is misunderstanding who though. I have always been told my feelings and explainations are very clear. However you are only commenting on certain things. Not the whole.

  16. Well what can I say here………..there is no one on this site more stupid at tech than me…………this is because it doesn’t interest me one iota…………if I really wanted to learn I would………..I stumble around the site clicking on different headings………..a few mutterings and curses later I find what I am looking for…………ok, I am on the friends list three times longer than I need be……….but this is just because I am inquisitive (ok, just plain nosy ) and stop to peruse the comments written beneath them………..the point being is, that if I can do it anyone can………..my talents lie elsewhere………just thought I would mention that. lol

  17. Rob no problems here with the new changes . As long as I can read everybodys blogs which I can the changes you made are fine with me. I think you and the Administrators are doing a great job and am really glad to have become a member of Senior Chatters. 🙂

  18. Faye, you’re absolutely right in your assessments. And Blinker, I think you were off base in your accusations of Faye somehow being a yes-woman to anything Rob says or does. You’re relatively new here and have no idea of the contributions Faye has made to this site over many years of dedicated unpaid toiling. To say “get a grip” and that she’s “infatuated” is uncalled for when you don’t even know her.

Faye is unbelievably fair, speaks her mind freely, and deserves an incredible amount of respect for her work here. She’s seen so many changes over the years and the obligatory complaints that go along with them that she knows the situation from both sides of the issue and all she’s trying to say is that Rob is aware and he goes to great lengths to keep the majority of folks on the site happy.

As is so often the case, upgrades and changes are not always optional and Rob is forced to make the changes in order to keep the site current with the various operating systems needed to keep the site compatible with all the secondary software and hardware systems that support this community.

    1. Your right chalk. I have no idea what faye has done for the site. But I know when someone says” if you don’t like it you can log out”. Is a cop out to making people feel like their inferior. Not accepting a person has a point of view is pathetic.

      1. Faye didn’t say anything about that until you made it personal by saying “get a grip” and accusing her of being infatuated. It just wasn’t warranted when her original comment was neither personal nor negative.

        1. I found it personal as she said it to me an not the other people who had said the same thing. As for the fan club thing it was meant as a joke. Some folk take their position too seriously. faye mentioned to other people that she did not speak for rob, but to me she showed a superior attitude, because as she put it I havn’t been here very long. I have paid the same as everybody. I will not be spoken down to. There are just to many people in the world who do that. She could have explained perfectly well in a friendly manner, but chose not to. Now I am being made the ba guy for having an opinion. Its pathetically sad that i am being ganged up on.

  19. I agree with Chalk on this one. Faye was very clear in her statement referring to “the handful”. There are some few here that cannot and will not be satisfied regardless how the site runs. Some are even replying in this blog. That’s fine to voice an opinion concerning upgrades and the like. I for one get lost half the time I’m here but that’s me, not Rob’s fault. Blinker you were off base charging Faye with those accusations. It was off color and uncalled for. I support Faye in what she said as well. She and all the administrators here do a fantastic job at keeping the site what it is. The fact I can simply log on and move around proves that. Just because I am a paying member doesn’t give me the key to the office. Site changes are just like any new change. There’s glitches. Let’s support those who work hard for our privilege to simply click to enjoy what has been provided for us. As far as I’m concerned, as long as I can log on and tool around I’m good with whatever Rob does because it is his site. Just warn me if you change the language to hendo beforehand so I can take classes lol…..

  20. I am distressed that the argument went personal.I apologize and I really never expected anything but wells stated comments about the blog format. That is clearly what Rob wants and that is what I will do from now on.

  21. I’ve made a number of fomatting changes to ‘blog comments’ and sidebar widgets. Can you please clear your page cache and let me know what you think? You don’t have to do this as your Browser will automatically pick-up the changes in due course, but it would be good to get some early feedback…

    Rob

    1. I have emptied all the cookies from the cookie jar
There are no more cookies anywhere in sight !
I have dumped out my history …it’s all gone … Done !
      I’m now a chatter without a past !

I’ve run back to chatters to see the results
I’ve run as quickly as my fingers go
And as I logged in my excitement grew
To such an extent ….I felt like a fool !

I’m here now …admiring your work
Not knowing for sure …what I was supposed to have found
All I really know …is that what I’ve found I love
So thank you for the improvement …Rob you are so very kind !

It’s elegant and modern ,with a soft touch of color …oh what a delight !
I can see my friends faces smiling into space …
I know now that I’m home …this is the right place !
I sit back on my chair a cushion on my back , my fingers ready
I start to type , no time to waste ! all of those cookies …I need to replace !

Thank You Rob ! You Are The Best !

  22. This is what I like about the changes,it has a clean, modern and uncluttered look about it. I found it tiresome to have to scroll through reams of blogs to get to other ones that I tend to follow. I think appreciating what Rob does do that suits most members is more productive than bemoaning about some changes that a few don’t like.

  23. Chatters, I’ve now added Authors Avatars to the Blog Index page as requested. So now you can easily see who’s-written-what at a glance. On the index page I’ve also made the “This Entry Was Posted…” details more obvious. On the actual Post page itself you can now go straight to the Authors “Other Blogs” if you so wish – this is located directly underneath the Authors Avatar.

To see the changes you may need to refresh the page (CTRL F5)

    Rob.
