Battle of the duvets.

Just a quick one to say that I take my hat off to all the ladies who go into the bedroom, and emerge a very few minutes later, having changed the entire bedding on a double bed. And, more often than not, without even breaking into a sweat!

I have enough trouble changing a single bed. This is the first time I’ve had a double bed while living alone, and, therefore the first time I’ve tried putting a double duvet into a duvet cover. And what a performance! I knew to turn it inside out, and grab the corners of the duvet, but when the duvet’s longer than me, even when my arms are fully stretched, how are you supposed to shake it down into the bottom….well, top corners? I ended up laying it on the bed and crawling half way inside it, and then had to stand up on an armchair to shake it properly into place. And when I stepped down off the chair, I stepped on one end of the duvet as I tried to throw it on the bed, and thus threw myself along with it.

Ah well, it’s on there now, but it remains a mystery to me, how ladies much shorter than myself do these things, without it being a big deal. You have my admiration! 🙂

  1. ohh just picturing you making the bed got me to laughing…we have a king size bed and i can’t make it up alone..hubby has to help me…but i don’t use a duvet…i have a quilt on my bed…it’s the one and only king size quilt my mom ever made..she said she’d never do that again…lol…she would usually crochet a tablecloth to give to family but i don’t use tablecloths so she made a quilt …i’m lucky she didn’t realize the work involved…lol

  2. You had me laughing steve, Love duvets (we call them Doonas) nice and light and warm. I gave up the battle of covers, now I make our Queen Size bed with fitted sheet, then flat sheet, then doona without a cover then another flat sheet, a fake mink throw across the end of the bed and lots of squashy cushions, looks great and no drama lol. xxx

    1. Definately good for a laugh Steve – I used to watch my sister wrestling with hers…not sure what the fuss was about, and i must be a mean sister, ‘cos I used to watch her and kill myself laughing then go do mine with ease…just one of those things I can do – there are not that many and I make the most of them!! Wonderful post Steve, you’ll have many in stitches…. xxx

  3. Had to think about this one. I change a super king duvet (doona) for a friend once a week and what I do is automatic lol. Inside out cover, hands inside down to the far corners, grab two corners of quilt while holding them through the cover and flick.Let it fall on to the bed and then work the cover down the duvet, no wriggling or shaking or twisting lol. In saying that I often get howls of laughter from my friends grandchildren when I flick to hard and the whole thing richocets back and covers me from head to toe hahahaha. My advice, for what it’s worth, either follow skippys advice or just lay the cover on top lol.

  4. I do as you do kiwigirl and it always works for me . Although it took me a long time to get it right .
Good blog Steve . It made me laugh !

  5. my mind was boggling at the vision of you steve gettin glost in the duvet cover, same thing happens too me, i get started in the two bottom corners and push the duvet right down but by the time i get half way up the bottom comes back to meet me , never mastered the task and probably never will, ho hum, but I will keep on trying . lolxxx

  6. I found a way to change a double duvet was to use safety pins, one in the middle and one on each corner. Then wrestle your way up. I have an Electric bed and found that the bottom fitted sheet always came off the top corners, flipping pain. Now with a few nappy pins they are pinned to the mattress and held in place. Couldn’t help lol at your dillemer, steve xx

  7. Poor poor Steve! Why didn’t you ask for help? It really wouldn’t have helped because I have always suffered through it as well but hearing your description of your experience has made me laugh out loud not at you so much as the fact that that’s what I must look like when changing the bed linens!! Thank you for sharing, steve…xxx

  8. I have no trouble with my queen size doona cover and I could just imagine you trying to fit yours. The image was soooooo funny hahahahaha. Keep on trying and take the advice from the ladies above. Good funny post steve xox

  9. LOL steve!
when I change my duvet, I spread the cover out over the bed, with the open end at the bottom.
I fold the quilt in half and yes, I climb inside the duvet and work at unfolding it and working to the bottom. I am too short to manage this any other way, lol, but it does work out pretty well. Good luck !! Oh and mine is a queen size, lol
