What happened to human service?
Delivered by hand to your door! Remember the lovely postman, who would knock and wait and chat. Who would carry in the heavy parcel. Now its an art to knock on the door, maybe, and run like hell before anyone sees you. Just annoying for most of us but actually devastating for some. Its both annoying and upsetting to send anything to my 94 year old Mum these days. She has a doorbell that would wake the dead but does anyone press it? She is sharp as a tack, but her hearing is not great and she is not venturing out much. She also worries, so watch out for a parcel, just causes anxiety. So mothers day, instead of receiving 100 daffodils, her favourite to remind her Spring is coming. She must have felt a little neglected despite my phone call. Having a text that said flowers had been left in a safe place at 6pm had to be ignored till the following day. Her weather is quite foul at the moment and I had to send her out on a search the following morning. The yard, the garage, the greenhouse. I sent her twice cause I dont trust her eyesight. Now we are both upset and Im furious 😡 Just another example of life letting down our aging population. Were they ever delivered? who knows. What ever the company do now is just pointless.

When I moved up to Lincolnshire the first day in my new home , the postman knocked and introduced himself and welcomed us to the village and asked if a parcel comes when we are not in, do we want him to leave it anywhere safe. And he is an absolute gentleman. And I have found the same from both the other posties. So in this case we are so lucky and really appreciate them. Totally different from the posties down Buckinghamshire
To be fair Mums postie came up trumps. He found her flowers delivered by some useless delivery firm, to an empty house. He brought them round to her today. Sadly 3 days later. So sorry all posties. Its the delivery men I hate 😈
Well…there’s the thing. Some are still dedicated to their art. That’s the sort I’m made from, I have to say. It pains me that times have changed so much that in a great many cases now it’s the customer who seems to be bowing and scraping to the person supposedly providing the service, well for us olden’s maybe more than others. Anyway, it’s nice to know some are still about. A few of us…on Senior Chatters maybe…ha ha!
What a fantastic experience. Is that small village life perhaps? Something I’ve never experienced certainly.
I must speak up for my post lady who is lovely as was the postman who came before her. I live in a small village so maybe that is why? Our delivery men are usually good too although reading notices is not their strong point. I love my Ring doorbell which my daughter persuaded me to have. I think it helps if they know they are on camera but this is a recent thing. Local posties have always been great where I live. 😀
Its great to hear some excellent posties still exist. 🙏
My postie toots the horn as he pulls up in his Van. Then he gets out and digs around in his van for 5 minutes looking for the parcel. If you dont hear him or are not at home, or dont get to the letterbox in time. He will leave a card telling you there is a parcel at the nearest post office. Which is half hour drive away. A nuisance if you work office hours. They dont open on Saturday. They are not allowed to enter a yard. Remembering smallest block of land is one acre. If its fenced, they dont know if there is a dog or not. You can have a parcel box next to your letterbox. Leave it unlocked and they lock it when they put a parcel in. 😀
The joys of different lifestyles. Im just enjoying being able to get stuff delivered at the moment. Being back in the UK and actually having an address. Amazon is my best friend and the step is usually adorned with parcels.
