Weather, Woes,The Worst and Worster and Worsest

I am in the eastern, southern central part of the USA and I am in the middle of a BIG storm; at least BIG for us. So, I started thinking about weather and how people cope with the WEATHER when mother nature has a hizzy fit.

For the most part my weather is moderate, though we could get a hit by a tornado, and I am not near enough to our river to get flooding, but we can get water drainage problems. A window of my bedroom was blown out by a storm and that is as close as I came to real danger. I am lucky to have a moderate climate.

So, I am interested in the people around the globe. What have you survived weather wise? How do you cope with the weather? I actually like the drama of a storm and hunkering down for a while. Or, just how is your weather and do you enjoy some of the drama? I will say that when I was out and about, a stop for a brandy or anything hot was good?

In spite of all the weather hazards, it is the one thing that unites us all, so hopefully you will all have something to say.

  1. Well Rose you are absolutely correct in saying we all talk about the weather….always a good fall back when conversation is wearing thin…….we don’t really have any extremes, flooding occurred a few years ago in some areas, but that was from the rivers overflowing from a particular high rainfall, the floods can be prevented if proper safeguards were put in place……..sometimes it can appear we have all four seasons In one day, Monday for instance, one minute huge snowflakes fluttering down, the next the sun breaking through…..we have the odd hailstorm which can cause damage to cars and caravan, when we do have anything like a few days snow our country practically comes to a standstill…….schools are immediately closed down, apparently the heating seems to stop working when we have snow, utter chaos on the roads, public transport stops running, delivery of goods for the shops are delayed, people start bulk buying goods in………handy if you can bake your own bread, because as sure as damn it that is going to be the first thing you cannot get hold of……….the gritters come out days after we have had the snow, even though it was forecast, but these are for the main roads only, forget any of the side roads they are left treacherous and nothing more than ice rinks until the snow thaws……..at one time there would be neighbours who would clear outside of their paths and a good part of the pavements, this very rarely happens now……oh and don’t forget the inevitable power cuts……I would say thank goodness we do not have any extremes of weather……….I wont go into the summer months when we have a couple of hot days…….forget watering you plants, we have a hosepipe ban…..oh the joys….lol xx

  2. Dear Rose,

I hope you can keep a secrete for yourself? I love the British Island not only for that reason I going to tell you now.

The bad weather comes to British Island first were heavy loads were left to begin with and when clouds have lost a lot of weight they come across the channel to strike us with the rest which is still more than enough I would say.
Happens this winter the British Island was covered with ice and snow and we nearly got nothing over here.

Due to the change of clima I’m exspecting the British Island to become the top winter paradise in Europe if there were some high mountains suitable for winter sports?

  3. Dear Roshario madam,
I am although not at all conversant with the subject which you have discussed, but I am writing this in appreciation of the weather- beaten but tiny bird bowing and submitting himself to the Almighty as depicted by the signature picture you have so wisely chosen.
The statement made thereunder is outstanding too ” Sometimes you have just to bow your head , say you prayer and weather the storm ! ”
I presume you have answered the query : How to tackle the worst of storms ? by uploading this loving logo.
Yes ,some storms, tornedos and tsunamis are not conquerable my man.
This logo in such cases points to the right answer ! Regards !

    1. Abhijaaj. Thank you for noticing and comment on the bird. I guess I could write a whole blog on surviving life’s storms that are NOT weather related. It sounds like you could do a better job than I could.

      1. Well Rose,
All of us have to face our quota of mishaps and set backs. Believe me, I had to face the worst possible storms , but bucked under them just like the weather beaten tiny bird in your logo.
Being hyper- sensitive has both its pros and cons, you know.
Let me tell you a short anecdote :
Guru Nanak, the Sikh guru , once happened to visit a village around noon. They took him to the place of a villager who had lost his son.
The father requested Nanak to bring the deceased back to life. Nanak promised to do so, saying :
” But you will have to bring me some food ! ”
“OK Guruji ! I will . Said the villager.
“However, there is a condition! “said the Guru.
“No death should have taken place in the family of that person !”
The villager ran happily to the village in the hope of the revival of his son.
When he failed to come even by evening, the Guru asked the relatives to cremate the child.
As the preparations for the ceremony were in progress, the father came back to the house, crestfallen.
“Where is the food ?”asked the Guru.
“I could not find a single house where no death had taken place, he said! ” with the tears in his eyes.
With regards and best wishes to everyone in the “virtual” SC family.
PS : Although I am not sure if the one I have in India is not virtual ! Probably both are virtual, probably both are real ! Please help, I am rather confused, Rose !
