Uninvited Visitors

Was told, “We are coming to NZ and will be staying with you for a week” That sent me into a flurry of preparation for a month. Arrival day loomed and then they descended on us along with a very naughty and over active 7 year old. My usually tidy and quiet house was turned into a circus. They consumed copious amounts of wine in the evenings and the wild child continued to cause havoc till the parents took her to bed with them as she would not go alone – really!!! My children were in bed by 7.30 at that age. After a week that seemed like a month they left. Me, I have just spent the last two days washing cleaning and putting my house back to order while they carry on with their NZ holiday. Hahahahaha, who is a grumpy Nana then? Me, I felt like I was a motelier cleaning up after paying guests. Oh well, such is life. Happy New Year All xxxx

  1. Oh Judee I so feel for you. Have had moments like that myself….but I have been known to tell the ones causing havoc that Im now going to have a holiday of my own to get over their visit….lol Holiday or not they should have been helping you out with the day to day chores so they could have the time to enjoy your company. Lets hope they receive a little teaching about politeness and consideration during the rest of their holiday from somewhere. You have displayed a whole lot of patience by the sound of it so good for you….:-)

  2. Judee, I can relate to the flurry of activity. I like to make friends and family comfortable and happy. It takes some work and effort, and usually most are very appreciative and all things are wonderful, but when you have to suffer for a week, it is not worth it. Guest should only drink and eat what is offered. Sounds like the naughty child has naughty parents.

  3. Oh Judee, you have every right to feel like you did. I would never announce to someone I was coming to stay with them. They obviously haven’t heard of “being invited”… I noticed they live in NT….. I’m bringing in my welcome mat from the front door step….. lol …… I’m glad you got it off your chest and we can add a bit of humour to your day.

  4. Of course I do sympathize with your awkward predicament, and applaud the manner in which you faced it.
    Notwithstanding that,
a guest is called ATITHI in Hindi meaning one whose date of arrival to your home is unknown, and may be the date of his departure too.
There is a well- known saying in Sanskrit- “Atithi Devo Bhave”, meaning:
The Guest should be treated like God.

  5. If they are your children and grandchild, well that is what we parents do, but if they are not, they were inconsiderate from the git go and I would just had other plans and just couldn’t possibly host them. You look like a fun and competent person, So I will just plan a vist and stay with you. I promise I won;t bring a wild child and I will be quite tidy and take breakfast by 7am and enjoy tea when I am home during the day. I am afraid of flying so I won’t be coming any time soon. LOL
