Twinkle,Twinkle,Little “Stars”

Twinkle,Twinkle,Little

One of the most important dates in my social calendar occurred yesterday. I would not miss it for anything.
There I am all dressed up.
A wedding, christening a trip to the theatre?
Theatre, but not as you would imagine …….. It is the school Christmas Play, starring all the polished faces of 4 and 5 year olds of Class 1.
Those little “people” on the first lesson of life.
Room packed to overflowing, big people balanced on tiny chairs with camera phones poised, necks craning.
The room becomes hushed as small voices sing” Jingle Bells” and the cast makes its entrance.
One Mother almost steps on my lap to catch that all important photograph, another pushes past into the aisle to fuss and tidy a costume.
There you see it in front of your eyes- a condensed glittery snow globe of life. All the egos, hopes and characters that are going to grow.
There is Mary, a “star “in the making, glamourous, dressed as Elsa from Frozen. Spiky haired Joseph, the prankster pulling at Mary’s long artificial blonde plait.
Oh ……then there is the full cast of supporting extras.
A little girl,” the reindeer” comforts a “fairy “in tears of stage fright. The mothering instinct already instilled….perhaps she was the one who should have been type cast as Mary.
The Angel Gabriel is Yoda from Star Wars and the shepherds have mutated into Ninja Turtles.
All these costumes worthy of a block buster movie, bought from the supermarket, slipped in alongside with the shopping.
The days of angels in white sheets and tinsel and shepherds in tea towels are gone-but the story is still the same and I still leave before the tea and coffee as my tears of pure joy and sentiment may cause my embarrassment.

It is a pleasure to post and give my diary entries an airing instead of being forgotten in a scrappy old notebook.
Safe Journeys.
Gyps.
