Thought for the day…….

Came across this little gem earlier, and thought I would share with you all…….

How about this for mindset!

I love this wee lady & everything that she stands for!

This 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o’clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.
After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, she was provided with a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window.
“I love it,” she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. “Mrs. Jones, you haven’t seen the room …. just wait.” “That doesn’t have anything to do with it,” she replied. “Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.
Whether I like my room or not doesn’t depend on how the furniture is arranged, it’s how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it. It’s a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.
Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I’ll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I’ve stored away, just for this time in my life.”
She went on to explain, “Old age is like a bank account, you withdraw from it what you’ve put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories
Thank you for your part in filling my Memory bank. I am still depositing. And with a smile, she said: “Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

  1. Very well written Star, as always.

A 92-year-old lady has to supply us with 5 points for happiness and satisfaction. What does it show us? Age is the perfect teacher for life in general.

The most remarkable point to me sticks in this sentence; how I arrange my mind!!! Anything else is just of a subsidiary matter. Thank you Star for posting and xxxM

    1. Hello Michael i once read that it’s not what life throws at you, its about the way you perceive it and deal with it……….all happens in the mind, so I’m reckoning a positive attitude wins hands down any day over a negative one…….xxx

    1. Well hello there my man…………if you don’t know where you have been lately then life must be grand indeed……….could be worse places to be than on Dave’s planet lol……..

  2. A beautiful story and a beautiful lady — if only we all could live by these rules – how much happier we would be as individuals – and how much better our world would look at this point in time.

Thanks for this lovely story, Star.

    1. Ty goldengirl, your comment is much appreciated as are the others……….do you know what, to have these words tattooed on the inside of ones wrist wouldn’t be such a bad idea, a constant reminder of how life is best lived………now the question is……..Dare I……..

    1. Rose, I wished I had had the wisdom that I needed through the different phases of my life, It would have been very handy………..nope, my wisdom definitely was acquired through living life……..

    1. Hello Pam, its not easy to stop worrying, but our minds always conjure up the worst scenarios, very rarely do they happen………..has worrying ever solved a problem, I very much doubt it………….try allowing yourself ten minutes a day to do your worrying in, then shut off, don’t allow your mind to stray back, make a conscious effort to focus on other things……….write your worries down on a piece of paper and then put the paper in a drawer, take it out a week later and chances are the worries will have solved themselves, you didn’t solve them by worrying about them, health matters I know are a different ballgame, but still have to keep a positive attitude, negative thoughts can only reflect on the body’s health……..so………..Never worry worry……… till worry worries you……

  3. You have a wonderful expression in the English language Star; — open mind —!

That old lady must have had the open mind all trough her life ( be born with ) cos an open mind can not be learned. xxxM

  4. How many of us noticed that “Free your heart from Hatred” is first even before worrying. I have never been a haters but I am surprised by how many people may be haters and some I have encountered. Worrying might have a positive benefit and may come from love, but that hating is usually totally destructive to all concerned.

  5. How wonderful is this. Haters or bad feeling towards something or others is very normal in most people, if you think about it. The Buddhist way of thinking addresses just this, free your heart from hatred of all kind. If we can try to do this it is liberating to the core. It helps also free us from worry, as to every action there is a reaction, its a conflict of the mind which harms how we view the world. I must just say I am not a religious man however admire anyone who can be enlightened as this dear lady managed to be.
