The Wonder of Science

If you would like to share your thoughts with me about the “wonders of science” I would be more than happy to be a moderator. Whatever you would like to share…concern over the Zika virus, the microchip implant to enable a 24 year old to move his hands again, even the remarkable life of someone you are blessed to know.
My only child moved away, in a far off state and country. My other “child” is a miniature poodle, 14 tomorrow, by the name of Molly Brown. Three times with a malignant tumour in her mouth, not expected to live very long. But she is truly remarkable and has withstood the test of time. And so this blog is aptly called “The Wonder of Science”, a fitting tribute to a dog that will be irreplaceable.

  1. Hi Rhon

For me it’s not so much the wonder of science (although science is indeed wonderful in so many ways) as the wonder of being a dog owner. I have had five dogs in my time, all great companions and all very much missed. My current one is six now and the four years I have owned him have flown by. I know the heartbreak involved in saying goodbye when my friends get too old or to sick to stay by my side, but I have I cannot imagine living without canine company. I believe they have taught me to be a more patient person, a calmer person, and a more understanding person and for that wonder I will always be grateful.

    1. I too, will also be grateful for the wonder of the dogs I have had in my life. My present furry daughter is a rescue Fox Terrier. When my previous dog died – she was a long haired Jack Russell (though it was thought at one stage that she was a Jack Russell/Maltese Cross) – I thought I would never love a dog again as I loved her – she was a very special little girl. After months of mourning, I realized that I couldn’t go on without another dog, so I rescued my Penny at the age of 6. I have had her for 15 months and love her to bits. She is not as obedient as my Phoebe, but I had Phoebe from a pup, but Penny gives me so much love and hopefully we will live out our lives together.

  2. The computer is the wonderful science of the current time. I can sit in my home and talk and read from Australia. I can find information on any subject. I am glad I have the smartphone, portable computer, and desktop publishing. I play scrabble with six players at a time or I can play with the computer. There are many other amusements. I can also go to You Tube and see demonstrations, listen to lectures and find almost any song I can think of and hear it. I can buy almost anything and have it arrive at my doorstep. I lose myself on the computer. Computer science is awesome.

  3. Rhon 7, I am so pleased to read somebody who appreciates Science; Although within two years of a century I have hobbies of a scientific nature to keep my mind active: Among these is designing mathematical models but it is a very lonely place as few people appreciate the beauty in an equation.
My current interest is a mathematical model of human behaviour. This is difficult as the variables are impossible to quantify but then, if it were simple, somebody else would have already done it.
If this is of interest to you, please advise me by email as it is hardly a subject for a blog.
