The Weather Factor
Being born in England, before emigrating in 1971, I still remember shivering through an English winter and, later, a German one. Australia was something to look forward to for it’s sunny and hot climate. Just recently my partner and myself experienced the other side of hot dry weather; bushfires !! Watching the freshening wind blow bushfire smoke towards my partner’s home and having to pack up and escape tends to dampen one’s enthusiasm for a hot climate !

I bet it does. In UK we hear of these fires almost every year. Must be frightening
Our California is a paradise but for fires, earthquakes and droughts. I hope your friend’s house did not burn down. I am grateful to live in a place that is mild mostly and few dangerous storms.
Fortunately no. After I left the wind changed direction and blew the fire in the opposite direction. My partner was able to stay and look after his beloved animals.
