THE MENIM GATE YRPES
I got the idea for this poem after visiting the menim gate as ypres.
For those who haven’t been it has thousands of manes on the wall who fell in the first world war and who’s body’s have not been found
The poem more or less says the same thing.
His name is one of thousands on the wall
He was one of those who fell
In that living hell
In the mud
In the blood
His body has not yet been found
He lays somewhere in the ground
simply put but very graphic, well done sugr
Good one.
Each year the find more of the lost in the fields. Unfortunately very few are identifiable.
That poem says it all, well written …. my great Uncles fell at Fromelle.. one came home minus his limbs and G .s .w. to the head, the other was never found… there are many stories that can never be told by those brave young men , some from Australia were only 16 yrs .of age …..
Well put Sugr. like the many other thousands , my uncles name is also inscribed on the memorial wall at Thiepval in France. A real good tour of the area is an eye opener. ‘badger’
Well put like badger said sugar. I have always enjoyed your poems and wish i could read more of them. I hope you blog another one soon. 🙂
Thanks to all for leaving a comment regarding the poem.
