The ceramic poppies at the Tower of London.

The ceramic poppies at the Tower of London.

Over 800,000 of these poppies were placed there re presenting one for each of the British fallen. My uncle who I was named after was one of those men killed in action. I would have dearly have loved to buy one, but learned too late that they had all been sold. In my opinion the next of kin to these men should have been given first choice to buy one. Now I read that some have been offered on Ebay at double the price, What a disgrace to the memory of these brave men.

  1. yes, badger, I saw them on our tv news. they looked spectacular. but like you I don’t think anyone should make money from our brave men, unless, its to help returned service men.

  2. Couldn’t agree more Badger. One of my Step-Daughters sent me a photograph of them all as soon as they went up, and i just felt how fitting it was to show such a tribute to these brave men and women. If there’s one thing we do well over here, it’s this sort of thing, and for these memories, in honour of those who lost their lives, are going to be sold off so quickly and cheaply, well, like i always say mate, it’ll never cease to amaze me how low some people will go to make that extra buck.

    1. I fully agree to you and Badger Postie. Our cemeteries are quite different from those you have in England. Many people place bronze statue and lanterns made out of bronze on the graves. These items are of current interest cos they can be sold to junkdealer later on.

It’s incredible today people don’t seem to have no respect of nothing!

  3. Postie I will tell you how low people will go, last week door bell rings, gypsy type women at the door trying to sell poppies from two paper cups, no identification, no official carrying container for the money, I immediately put it on facebook and informed the police, they confirmed it had already been reported and were patrolling the streets to find her………hope they did find her, but what the outcome would have been……..who knows….

  4. The same happens here in Germany very, very often. Our papers report nearly every of those elements who choose elderly women in priority. Month ago I had a wide-angle spy installed in my front door cos those people turn up in small groups,
they are very clever in confusing and stealing.
Today no one know who rings the bell any longer. xxxM
