Remembering

Thought I would put this up on here rather than the poetry page just to see how many comments I get if any.

We remember all those who have died in all the wars
Some not really knowing what wars were for
They go out with all the rest
Doing a job they do the best

We remember the ones who came home
Having there own battles to fight
Day and night

We remember the family’s not knowing what to do
and all the heartbreak they are going through

We remember the ones still out there
Trying to bring peace
And there family’s hoping for a happy reunion
They should be remembered everyday not just this special day

  1. Wonderful poem Sugar. Yes, I will remember…I have a profoundly sad memory about a soldier. My husband’s bestfriend served in Viet Nam. I believe he was a helicopter pilot. He dropped bombs. He had left a wife and 5 children behind. When he returned, he had a horrid time acclimating to family life. He was very depressed, angry, not sleeping, stopped talking. She literally begged for help for him from the Veterans Association. He got none. He committed suicide. His note explained the last bombs he dropped hit an orphanage; every time he looked at his children, heard them laugh, heard them cry – he remembered what he had done. He couldn’t live it. I will remember not only my friend Tom, but all veterans. HS

  2. that is so sad Helen…we do not look after these men and women as we should…we remember when it comes round to remembrance day… but how many remember any other time of the yr…it saddens me when young yobs and thieves go round vandalising and stealing memorials to these men and women who gave there lives or who like this young man went to war to make things better for them……. I think it should be taught more in schools and by parents that but for these wonderful men and women we would not be able to enjoy life like we do today…..thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who gave there life and to all our service men and women who are still serving queen and country and other forces across the world what ever nationality they are for us to have our freedom……..God Bless You All xxx

  3. So touching and so important to remind others why we celebrate this holiday. It’s tempting for our kids and grandkids to just think of this is another day off from school. It’s our job to tell them why we honor these brave men and women. Good point, Helen, reminding us of the horror as well as the glory (only in the sense of the bravery and sacrifice, not in the day to day business) of war. Good post Sugr.
