Purses will be the death of me!

Recently I borrowed one of my younger daughter’s purses. It was much bigger than I am used to, but one of her smaller ones. Her purses have become small suitcases. She carries makeup, an extra diaper and essentials for her baby, small umbrella, tissues, pens, pencils, paper, calendar, phone, ipad, snacks, keys, coin purse, glass care, mail she still needs to open, and that is on one side of the purse, she has several compartments.

Now on to my purse…the one of hers I am using. I rather liked being able to put extra stuff in this purse. Until I have to find either my keys or my phone!I needed to use that phone today. I looked in the purse, searched both compartments, and no phone was to be found. So I called the phone, then I remembered I can’t hear the darn thing unless I am holding and looking at it!

My youngest grandson has a habit of getting into my purse and has been known to play with the phone. So I went about checking all his play areas. Then I checks my jackets and pants because I tend to put it in them if I am running a short errand. No luck. So I checked every charger we have in the house to see if I had left it plugged in. I went out to my car, and checked there, under the seats, in the back, in the glove compartment, although I never put it there, but was being thorough! I retraced my footsteps for two days… because I could not remember when I used it last. Then I decided to do the last one thing I had put off doing. I cleaned out the purse! And the darn thing materialized in front of me surround by receipts, business cards, snack and gum wrappers, a dozen pens, makeup, and last years Christmas cards I had not mailed!

I do not like big purses…. I need to figure out how to use a coin purse to carry what I need. But then what would my changes be to loose that?

  1. “Her purses have become small suitcases.” That was the first thing that made me laugh.
Yep Linda. Been there done that.
My solution has always been to get on Facebook and message a friend to phone me so I can locate my phone. So sad to have so much junk around that you cant find your own phone . :l;ol:

  2. What you call purses we call handbags, but yes your absolutely right, my daughters are so large and heavy, gawd only knows what she is lugging around in them, but she is tall and can carry them off………now you get a women of small stature with a large handbag and she looks ridiculous, the bag is all but dragging on the ground, not a good look………but if fashion dictates it, has to be done…….NOT……….xx.

  3. Linda, I like your blog a lot. I have wrestled with the purse issue a lot. I have a large one now and it was getting so heavy that I took everything out and then started putting everything back. I almost left my insurance card out. It is now summer and I leave the purse in the car and take a small one that only holds keys and wallet and phone. If it is too small I wrestle it and if it is large, I cannot quite carry it.
I do have 5 outside pockets which makes things easier. Makes me think, I probable need a summery lighter one. For sure, something in a floral and fabric. And difinitely lighter in weight .

  4. I love abog handbag, I carry one everywhere coloured coded with my shoes of course ,in it are my sunnies, my reading glasses, handkercief, my coin and note purse , my business card purse with cards, my credit and atm card holder, some lollies in case i call in to see the gandkiddies, my house keys, a lipstick and a an embrodered mirror to refresh my lipstick if i call in with friends for a coffee, so you can see a small purse would never fit, oh also my mobile phone … A diary , appt book and pen ….. after all that I think I might need an even larger one … ha ha ha

  5. This problem isnt confined to women…I carry a “Manbag” (slung over my shoulder…you know the ones 🙂 )…..Its a constant amazement to me how much dross accumulates in it….Thank goodness I dont have a wife..Im sure her lippy, cigs, old recipts, and tissues would end up in there too !

    1. @cappuccino – do you mind if i start advertising space for rent in your manbag? I need just enough space for a set of screwdrivers, tire gauge and small container of oil for the car. Is anyone else interested in renting space in his manbag?

  6. The good thing about a big purse and it’s ability to turn into a weapon. First your arms are stronger for just carrying it around. If you need to you could whip that baby around and cold cock someone. Just saying, it is there is you need it. Plus could probably use it as a chair if you have no place to sit. I am thinking it may not be a bad idea of have one.

  7. Yes surprises me what can get in ones bags to.i miss my husband he was great at carring my bad .as he would put his things in it then sling it over his shoulder take my hand off we would go ,never minded how much he put it in lolol

  8. I rarely use a purse anymore…just one more thing to leave behind at the store..lol! I do have a traveling purse I use when I fly somewhere. it is large enough to fit travel essentials. Today I use my purse more as a filing cabinet than anything else. I know what is in there so I don’t have to search the house for it!
