Our Start In Life……

Hi Peeps…….sort of following on from Tanias blog re the Red Rose……..does our upbringing have such a big impact on what we become as adults…. many big name celebs were brought up in children’s homes for whatever reason, Dr Barnados comes to mind…..fashion designers, top hair stylists…….would they have gone on to achieve such status had they been brought up in a regular family ?………I read of men and women who had the most degrading, despicable upbringing but were determined to turn their life around and make good…….they got out and didn’t follow the cycle as many do. I like to read of self made millionaires who had a bad start in life, hardly being able to read and write, but they made it by sheer guts and determination, then on the other hand I read of privileged kids born with the Silver Spoon in the mouth and they are ending up in rehab centres or in court on drugs drink  related offences……….I hear and see modern day parents buying expensive gifts weekly for their kids with the explanation I want them to have what i didn’t…….do we form our kids characters, yes to some degree, but by and large we learn and develop our own…….if we have been taught right from wrong I would say that’s the lesson to live your life by

  1. I think it all depends on the individual, you can have 6 siblings, same parents obviously, same upbringing, same oppotunities, or same abuse etc and yet they can all grow into adulthood differently. Good blog Star

    1. Well the family that lived next door to us as we were Growing up was a family of eleven children, they have all gone on to be great business people, one way or another. I would also say that my family all succeeded in what they were doing. I just think it depends on the individuals.

    2. Hi Ma……….its always been a puzzle to me why sisters don’t look exactly the same, same genetic makeup…..I know its a egg that splits to produce twins…….so I am guessing that the eggs are all a little different to begin with…….and of course the squirly little tadpoles have their part to play too, they determine the sex…….we take features and characteristics from both…….isn’t nature wonderful….

  2. Hi Tania…….your neighbours were gifted with drive and ambition and not lacking in the brain department either…….its said we can achieve anything if we really want too…….

  3. Star, I too know of this phrase ” I want better for you then it was for me. ” But what is not said is, you have to earn what you want, Those that had it rough were at a decision; Do I want? Yes or no? Yes, then no holds full speed, No, then the street. For the Silver Spoon kids, the question was not do I so more so Give Me…

    1. Hi Sailor……I think it must feel so much more fulfilling to have earned what we have than to have received it on a plate………but in a way a little sad that now we are older what do we have to work towards….. what’s our goals.I am guessing most of us don’t really want for anything as such…….. the family have flown the nest, so the main wealth we need now is our health…..

  4. The old argument of nature versus nurture for producing the adult.
I think the Spartans had it right. “Give me the child until he/she is 7 and I will give you the man/woman”

  5. It is the same old puzzle isn’t it. Nature or nurture. But even if we stick to these hard and fast boundaries there is one thing we cannot overlook; people are human and what drives one could halt another.
Is it the job that makes the woman or man or is it the woman or man that makes the job?

  6. Hi artman………well its said the forces make the man, and women too I would think……..but do the right kind of men join up now they have a choice……..I remember a friend of my sons who applied to join the Army, at his interview he was asked if he could kill someone, he answered no and was rejected…….now what kind of a question was that……I would say met with that situation, you or them, you would save yourself…….what I have found over the years in various jobs I have had, is that if you show you are a bit smart you very quickly get given more responsibility but remain on the same pay as others that plod along at their own simple pace…….so in some lines of work a job can enrich and teach you….my time working with people with learning difficulties taught me a lot…..

  7. Hi John one way of looking at it…..but if your being given more responsibility and are answerable for peoples safety. but still on the same rate of pay it grates a little….ok you can so no.
but when your new in a job you tend not to
