One Mystery Solved!!. lol.

‘Stoned wallabies make crop circles’

Australian wallabies are eating opium poppies and creating crop circles as they hop around “as high as a kite”, a government official has said.

Lara Giddings, the attorney general for the island state of Tasmania, said the kangaroo-like marsupials were getting into poppy fields grown for medicine.
She was reporting to a parliamentary hearing on security for poppy crops.
Australia supplies about 50% of the world’s legally-grown opium used to make morphine and other painkillers.

“The one interesting bit that I found recently in one of my briefs on the poppy industry was that we have a problem with wallabies entering poppy fields, getting as high as a kite and going around in circles,” Lara Giddings told the hearing.
“Then they crash,” she added. “We see crop circles in the poppy industry from wallabies that are high.”
Rick Rockliff, a spokesman for poppy producer Tasmanian Alkaloids, said the wallaby incursions were not very common, but other animals had also been spotted in the poppy fields acting unusually.
“There have been many stories about sheep that have eaten some of the poppies after harvesting and they all walk around in circles,” he added.
Retired Tasmanian poppy farmer Lyndley Chopping also said he had seen strange behaviour from wallabies in his fields.
“They would just come and eat some poppies and they would go away,” he told ABC News.
“They’d come back again and they would do their circle work in the paddock.”
Some people believe the mysterious circles that appear in fields in a number of countries are created by aliens. Others put them down to a human hoax.

  1. How very interesting Shadow. I had no idea that OZ produced 50% of the legally grown opium, and if the wallabies are able to enter the field and get high on the poppies, what’s to prevent humans from doing the same?

I once saw a documentary about crop circles where two guys proved they could (and did on camera) produce crop circles and showed us how. I personally believe they’re produced by people out to cause a stir!

Thanks for this most interesting article.

  2. You are welcome jojo. I also heard that story too. I do think most crop circles are done by man..yet still, some are so intricate that not even the experts can explain them. As for the Australian question? you will have to ask them! lol. Thanks jojo. :).

  3. I think some crop circles are another of lifes mysteries. No doubt most are hoaxes and I am not quite sure about the alien explaination, although I never dismiss anything, but some circles are very hard to explain given the locations, the detail and accuracy of some which appear within a short space of time. Very intriguing.

  4. In relation to the poppy fields, I lived not far from two of these when I lived in Tasmania. One belonged to a firm that contracted to a private medical facility which produced medecine. It was surroundede by 8ft fences with barbed wire on top and security cameras. The second one, just down the road from the first, was government land, and the poppies produced there went to make medicine for hospitals etc. I always thought it was rather ironic that this one only had 2ft fences around it, a lop sided gate and no other protection. Wallabies, and any other marsupial could climb in or jump the fence. Many times we drove passed, and much to the amusement of my children, saw some very happy cows, wallabies, sheep etc roaming round amongst the plants. The funniest one I saw was a very stoned wombat trying to cross the 2 lane road which was a main highway. We actually stopped with our hazards on while he happily waddled all over the road until he got to the other side lol.

  5. I lived in Tasmania for a couple of years and there was a poppy field not far from me. I wish I had this information whilst I was living there – I could have gotten high!!!!!!!!! if I knew you just had to chew some (LOL)
