Old and Love Learning

Get curious about something and start learning and you will be amazed at what it might do for you. I just got excited about learning again. I was going through a burnout phase having to study too much about renovating stuff of which I was not greatly interested
I just received a catalogue. “The Great Courses”, and I wanted to take most of them. The classes are on discs which you purchase and keep. The courses are on music to physics and calculus, to understanding music, jazz history, art history, and how to speak or write better. I have no connection to these courses and I am not selling them. I just want to learn something instead of forever being ignorant of it and feeling helpless or stupid.
I am excited about photography. I know I can click a picture and learn a bit more and I can keep at it forever. I am going to try music appreciation since I don’t really get much out of music without lyrics and those two will keep me busy for a while. When our pianist plays at church maybe I will appreciate the music he studied long and hard to play. After I take the courses, I don’t know if i will learn much, but I know I will learn something worth the price of $39.95 and it is my best way to learn now.
If you don’t want to spend money there is a lot of free stuff on the internet but just get curious about something and start learning and I think you will be much happier.

  1. Oh yes Bloom……never too late…..if we don’t keep trying new stuff we will stagnate…..I think you have to be interested in what you would like to learn about obviously…..so each person will be different in what they choose….myself….it’s being creative….with stitches etc….so I have embarked upon a tapestry…see it doesn’t have to be academic….just anything that will stretch our minds…and maybe learn some more embroidery stitches…..and yes……photography….when the weather gets better I intend to go out there and click…….I don’t need to learn enough to go professional..lol….but….why not?………so many things to choose from…it beats sitting in front of the television….not my favourite pastime……although even that can teach us stuff…….keep the old grey matter busy……whatever you choose….

  2. Rose. can never stop using the brain……….once you do the games up…………..i can do all the ” normal ” ladies things, cooking ,sewing ,knitting……….but my big interest is the mind…..the study of it……….and although i have done training pertaining to it over the years, i am now going to embark on a more intense study of it……..just fasinates me…………and i like to be as social as possible………..love meeting new people and getting to know different views and take on things………stagnate me…..never..xx

  3. Now come on Rose……………..that’s asking rather a lot of me………..smart i may be, but when it comes to men’s brains and their way of thinking, i’m as dumb as the next women…….lol x

  4. Rose, i had answered your reply to my reply ..lol……..but deleted it……….it was all becoming to complex………just not the right place to disclose what i have learned about the way lots of men think………..don’t like what i have found………and i will say no more..

  5. this is why I enjoy writing, Bloom ,each day i find new words i have never heard before, and the placing of them in pros is always a delight to me,, i also love working with the red cross, the things I have learned from interaction wether it,s through disasters or just a day to day meeting I learn something from every person I meet and every day is a new day of learning something new. not structured learning , and surprises.and that of every day a new awareness.
