Oh joy!!!! it’s nearly Christmas…lol

Here we go again…..it’s nearly Christmas…the cards have been in the shops since the beginning of September here….that really narks me off…

Oh…really….I do like Christmas…but to be honest it’s not so very different from any other many occasions when my family get together and eat together.

We have had many changes over the years…..gone are the days when Christmas meant that my home resembled a Nursing Home….with elderly parents propped up together on the sofa….dozing lol…I have no recollection of what the kids were doing but they must have been ok…they never complained….well….it’s family isn’t it?

I cannot believe I used to buy one of those hideously disgusting fresh turkeys…..drying up in the oven for hours…faffing about with stuffing sausages bacon etc….I mean…..why????? Oh and those horrible legs sticking out …..what was I supposed to do with those….haha I used to sling them!!!..much to the annoyance of the dog….now it Icelands best….a neat frozen turkey breast joint….complete with handy foil tray….and gammon mmmmmmm yummy!. Oh dear….I once cooked a piece of pork too….little realising until the last minute that the plastic was still round it!!!!…I pretended not to hear….um….so mom….no crackling? haahhaha

Now it’s grandchildren…..I am swamped with adverts on the TV showing me every toy known to man…..dolls that wet…..dogs that poop….drawing sets with lights music and god knows what else…..why cant they just stick to Lego???? it least that lasts for years instead of falling apart….I just ask their parents to get a present and give them the money lol….bless them they are so good..

Then it’s the nativity plays…..little darlings…dressed in tissue paper, tea towels and tinsel…..all beaming innocently at us…..I once went to one when two small angels had a fight at the back….they ended up pulling each others wings and fists were raised lolol

One of the best bits, for me, is taking my oldest granddaughter too choose stuff for ”The Shoeboxes”…..a shoebox wrapped with Christmas paper which we fill up with small toys sweets crayons toothbrushes and other toiletries….in the hope that I can teach her that it really is better to give than receive….off these boxes go….to small ones who have nothing….I get her to watch You Tube where she can see children opening them……….makes you think.

Then there’s the Christmas tree….what a dust gatherer!!! out comes the boxes with all sorts of stuff that the kids have made…plus other sparkly things….I let the big one do most of this…it seems to look a tad weird but…..do I care….not a jot….the trees up isn’t it!!!!!

Oh and then there are the cards……I sprain my wrist every year…..writing dozens of them….and notes…and receiving dozens back…..I never know what to do with them…..well my walls are all nicely plastered….smooth…..I ain’t messing those up !!! Last year I resorted to sellotaping them to the doors….much to daughters disgust….well they were up weren’t they?..
Who cares???

A ‘white Christmas?’….um ….you must be having a laugh….in the UK if we are lucky we get sunshine….but….alas….it can just as easily be dull and grey. Not a speck of the white stuff anywhere…

Still……would I really want not to have Christmas…no….I love the carols….and it brightens up the winter here….but…let’s be honest….it’s got all out of proportion…..some silly people are still paying for last Christmas now…..

No…..for me….it’s a family time….no different to the rest of the year……Oh the joy of watching three small girls clutching their new toys…..glowering at each other….with cries of ”That’s mine!!!!!! Santa brought that for meeeeeeeee!”…. if another one so much as glances at their stuff hahaha ……….ah well that’s kids for you isn’t it?

Yes…..a family time…..and friends….and love….above all….love….

Anyway onwards and upwards…..I have to go the back of the cupboard to see if there is any left over Christmas paper from last year ..oh… and I may even find a few cards tooo lol…I have to start somewhere I suppose………

Much Love Morvy xxxxxxx

  1. I guess you could call me a Christmas Obsessive! I love it – every single thing about it. I love the music, December is my favorite month at church – love watching the priest gather the small children and tell the story of baby Jesus being born. Yes, everything you say is true – but its all part of it – squabbles (children and adults lol), the food, the cookies, finding the perfect present for someone, Santa, Snowmen, Angels, lights, the tree, hugs, kisses, tears, cards, candles, parade, even the fruitcake that I detest! LOL…bring it on…it makes me pause, it makes me smile, it warms my heart…it reminds me of the many priceless gifts in my life. I cant imagine life without it…HS

  2. SANTA’S COMING! Hurrah. The thought of putting the decorations up is depressing. When they are up i’m shattered, but so full of the christmas spirit. I blue tack my cards to my glass cabinet. Then you can’t see it needs cleaning out for a month. My mum used to get her small clothes horse out to hang her cards on. Its amazing how festive a clothes horse can look. I can’t wait till the shops are shut on christmas eve. Then what we havn’t got we do without and christmas has started.
