New Blog rules and Rob’s Mind Got Mangled

New Blog rules and Rob's Mind Got Mangled

Dear Mr. SC Rob.
INTRO Feb 14, 2015
This blog was WRITTEN A YEAR and I just came across it, so I am REPOSTING because I recently heard some confused discussion of what Rob WANTS from Blogs. I hope The comments are included. But Rob explains his reasons and also that 300 characters are enough and NOT 300 words.

ORIGINAL Bog written April 2014

What are ya thinkin with these new blog rules? Do you really want to forcibly detain a person till they get a 20 word title? GEEZ! I think that others and I miscalculated those 300 characters. I think if you would tell us 3 lines of type or more we might get it right. Do you want three to five lines or do you want four to ten lines? Trust me, I just posted a lot more blah, blah, blah than I had planned. And I have scrolled through a whole lot of blah, blah in recent posts. I try not to use vulgar words here.
Last, how do we know what you think is keyword rich until we post it? They never taught me Keyword Rich in school or anywhere else. The other rules make sense but why don’t you add a grammar and spell checker to your program or suggest one, some of us are doing the best we know and could use some help from you.
Mr. Rob, your wishes are my command but dear honorable leader, you threw me some curve balls, and did you make these rules all by yourself? I struck out I think. Sorry and should I go to the bench or shower? i still love to play around here.

  1. Hi Rose,

300 characters (with spaces) amounts to approximately 50 words. I’m pretty sure that anything worth writing in the Blogs should be at least that. Yes, I made a mistake with the 300 WORD limit, but quickly changed it to CHARACTERS when I realized my error.

The title tag of a Blog post is very important to the search engines and ultimately to SC as a whole. To stop duplicate titles being made, which is very bad for SEO (search engine optimization) and to give Google what it wants, I’ve added validation to the post form to check that it meets Google’s best practices.

Keywords are essentially words that are key to your post. So for example anything that you type into Google when searching for something is called a keyword or keyword phrase. As an example, say I was writing a Blog post about “The Best Over 50’s Website On the Planet” naturally my title and post would be about said subject, and of course mention Senior Chatters throughout 🙂

That’s all it means… Nothing to panic about. In fact, just writing naturally and ensuring your Blog Title is on topic with your Blog Post will automatically ensure you have a winning post that Google and our community will love.

Why do I care so much what Google thinks of SC. Well, if we didn’t rank highly in the Search Engines (mainly Google) for keyword phrases, specifically in our case for over 50’s friendship, then people simply wouldn’t realize we existed. Ask yourself this, how did you find Senior Chatters in the first place?

I’m not trying to be difficult here or trying to put hurdles in the way of people posting to the Blogs, I’m just tying to keep Google onside and ensure SC continues to be a success for many years to come.

    Rob

    1. Rob, I appreciate and respect your reasons. I don’t know whether i am getting it wrong or if you are, but when I am confused, I figure others are also. I call myself a fool with books on my head. I never get enough books on my head, though.

  2. Hmmmmm! Keywords? Google? Ratings? Minimum characters? Title in line with post?

OK I understand the concepts, all except the last one. I mean why would anyone title a blog “Dogs” and write about cats? Seems a little over the top, but WTH, I suppose I can live with it.

    1. What I mean is, say your post title is Hard to Find 1975 Star Wars Memorabilia. Your post will obviously be related to Star Wars. For maximum exposure it would also be a good idea to mention the keyword phrase “1975 Star Wars Memorabilia” a couple of times throughout your Blog post. That’s all. This a just a tip it’s not a rule.

    2. Way, that would be easily explained. Dogs are like men, they go where where the fun is. And cats are like women, much more refined, so that Title could quite well lead to much more than expected! haha

  3. Rob,w eare getting educated slowly but fast for us. I just love your wise, cute face and i know where there is wisdom there is a big, ole, good heart. I don’t think I was kind enough to honorable Sir Rob. I am sorry for that.

  4. This is why I love reading blogs so much. Never know what’s next. If we write different titles and mix the message body with random subjects, I bet Google will think it’s drunk LOL It’d be cool messing with Google’s mind to see what it throws back…..:)

  5. I tend to scan through blogs, not reading every word…so why are we talking about dogs and cats and searching for them? You think they are in a blog…don’t you mean bog? And being googled seems sort of risky, I was googled once and I never saw the guy again. Jsmile, this reply was for your enjoyment. lol

    1. Linda. Next time stick around when googled, might be fun. You would need to read more words but I’ll splain a bit. Robs wants us all to be googled a lot. It is good for us to help find our way back to the site. LOL and for new members to stumble on the site by our using keyword rich words like senior chatters, his fav, and other googled words, whatever they may be. You are a funny lady.Linda.

    2. If you google Google what do you get? I googled it and I came up! LOL
I googled Linda and got Bing lol! What’s up with that Linda? Maybe I better google
“Pony Tail 🙂 That was for your laugh Linda. I heard that….

  6. I have read all the posts and most comments about the new blog “rules”, and I have to ask “What’s all the hub-bub, Bub?” They are listed as “tips”, for the purpose of “maximum exposure”. I didn’t take them as strict rules or anything like that, just helpful suggestions.
I do appreciate (as others have mentioned too) how any of us are free to present questions and/or complaints, and try to work out issue together as members, and with Rob. That’s how it should be.

      1. Rob, Hubbub = confusion. It may be a good idea to make changes slowly. You know we don’t come to this site to practice using new tech stuff. New rules, New gadgets and words unknown to us is what the hubbub is all about.

          1. Thank you flowersun. I am glad for the support. Does he think he has to give the brain a workout to ward off dementia and shake loose the ones who have it too bad. LOL

  7. I dont write blogs anymore, mine were probably too short, not interesting enough and I am not sure about length of titles or anything now, but I enjoy reading everyone elses, not sure if I want to be googled at my age..enjoy !!!!

  8. what a load of old rubbish, no wonder i never look at blogs anymore if this is the level of conversation. The only reason i read this was i was interested in one persons comment and not in all this kiss rob,s……………. from some members.

    1. Kaybee, You did not try to write a blog and then go crazy looking for the edit button, and try to add a picture and never see it pop up, try about 15 times and discover i had to submit then see it, and know I didn’t know how to edit. Gosh, what if I posted a scandalous picture. After a half hour, pretty soon your blood boils and you hub bub.

        1. Hover over blog at the very top. hover over read, and an edit blog will appear and you will get to edit and you can even edit old blogs.
Rob sent me instruction near the top of this blog.

      1. I understand that must have been very frustrating. I acknowledged that it’s a very good thing to address problems/questions . That’s not the part I was referring to though. I was just saying that I didn’t personally see the new guidelines list for writing blogs as a strict list that we were forced to adhere to.
The line “What’s all the hubbub, Bub?” is a quote from Bugs Bunny. In the cartoons, he said that, meaning “What’s the big problem, all the commotion?” I didn’t mean to offend with that. It was just my silly humor coming out.

        1. Kaybee, You never intend You are too nice, but you have missed a lot of the confusion which is a synonym.
like to learn here and I take tips, or rules VERY seriously. This is Rob’s site and I want to add not detract from his site leased to members.

    2. cefnrider. Being grateful and appreciative is not ass kissing, Expressing gratitude works in your real life also. You would be amazed. If you don’t like the blogs, have you written any?

  9. I’ve been ‘hovering’ for hours and my poor wings are tired already. This is the only message I get. 😆

  10. Pam, rest your wings, eat some nectar and try again. On home page, Hover over
read blog and beside it will pop out edit blogs and the you click on that and an edit blog page appears. I don’t remember your writing a blog recently. Are you trying to edit a comment to a blog? I don’t think we can do that. Keep trying, I have learned it and I am older than you are.
