My Shocking revelation ??

Hello all..........well I was chatting with a friend today from Ireland, ......we were talking family.......I happened to mention that as much as I love my two offspring, and one grandson, and wouldn't be without them, if I had my life again I wouldn't have children......shock, horror gasp.....his reply.......Gawd I cannot believe you have just said that geeze........what did I say that was so bad ?......he says a big reason to have children is to pass the family name on, and the blood line running........well that would be the last reason ever for me to have children....sod the name........lots of couples choose not to have a family today...........second time around if I could have one, i would travel and see the world.......children are not the be all and end all........are they ??

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO what are you like…..
I do like this post very much as it makes us think…… think what would life have been like if ….. we had no children. To live so many years with no nappy changing, crying, sickness……. errr that was not my thing….. then just when you think its all over they hit 12, 13, + and all hell breaks out.. another 5 or 6 years of anti parents… now seen as someone from outer space…. people that really don’t know what they are talking about…. drink, sadly if you are unlucky drugs…… more sick, yes more sick…. then bugger just when they start to get really lovely humans they up and leave you. Blimey …… then it all starts again…. grandchildren and poor old parents get landed with it all over again…… lol come on

Hi Cloud……..grandchildren are a blessing……..but many a parent will know when I say no matter how old your children you never stop worrying about them, even though they give you no reason to……..just think that your mind could be so much freer……..but the joys of children can out weigh that….just musing……but still wouldn’t have one to keep the family name and bloodline running…..

I am glad i had children but because i wanted to not because of “family name” after all if you have daughters they usually change their name if they marry anyway.
But in saying that I dont think its “shock/horror” if couples choose not to have children everyone has a choice which should be respected. Better to choose not to have children than to have them and not want then … which sadly is sometimes the case.

Star, somehow I think that had you not had any children… you would feel different. I was unable to have children and have always wanted one or two. I actually wanted a daughter.

Mom always said, “Those who want children… can’t have (physically) them and those who don’t want any… do have child(ren). She was referring it to a particular family member,

I did inherit a stepmonster (oops, did I just type that)? And of course we have our adorable, grandchild ~ Aubrey.

Being brought up with three siblings and many, MANY cousins… I was surrounded by children of all ages. I miss the involvement of being part of the newest great-nephews/nieces. I do love children. Even my stepmonster. 😀

Hello Pam, I chose to have children and don’t regret it, I cannot begin to imagine what it would be like to want children and to not be blessed…….all I am saying there are positives and negatives………maybe I am one of the worriers of the world, unnecessary worrying albeit……… but just think sometimes what it would be like to not always have my thoughts elsewhere…………oh the nights of clock watching till they are safely home…lol………15 minutes late and I would have created the worst scenario ever in my mind………does it never end, the worrying about your offspring…….nope…….daughter having an operation next week……..here we go again……..sheesh……..

It does not hurt to dream of different possible lives. What if I had been an actress? What if I had been rich? What if I did not have children? I told myself I was never going to have children since I was the oldest of six children and had to help raise my siblings. Yet I became pregnant as soon as I moved out. To be followed by two others over time. Add on the grandchildren which I babysit, I have been responsible for children all my life. I may secretly dream of what my life would have been like without children. But if asked would I give up what I had, the answer is no. Hopefully we make decisions before we have children. Not everyone should be a parent. Those who would make great parents not always can have one. Dream whatever you feel like, but recommend you don’t tell your children. It could be hurtful and they might not understand. Nothing wrong with being true to yourself and not having children just to have them.
