My earlier life

I left school aged 15 from woodlands road secondary modern school Gillingham Kent I left there July 1962 . I went to work in Chatham backyard in the p s t o n stores as a boy sportsman helping to pack stores to be sent out to naval bases around the world
I loved working there made a lot of friends working there .Great there . I worked there from 1962 until 1976 when the government closed down the backyard there in Chatham as they did in other areas then .I then went to work for British rail started of as a carriage cleaner .then wasn’t to train as a passenger guard .I will tell you more of this as time goes by ..

  1. I also left school at the age of 15 in that same year, my first jobs was as an office junior in an accountant office, so very boring for a teenager in the 60’s, needless to say I moved on to better things. Did not have your staying power frogprince.

I worked for at least one year as a carriage cleaner at British rail in gillingham Kent before starting training as a passenger guard .I had 4 weeks in a class room doing written tests and exams when I passed that part I had 3months with other guards routes learning from Gillingham to London either to Victoria or Charing and the other way to Kent coast to Margate and ramsgate and Dover . I spent that time it was a good time and I then had to take a final exam with a training inspector . Which took 3hours practical and written . I passed this with flying colours this was on a Saturday and the following Monday I was on shift I was so very very happy with this job .I will continue tomorrow
