my blind date

My blind date

The once roaring fire was now dying
Red embers left, marking its death
Whispering smoke, a few sparks flying
As the fire gave out its last breath

How long I’d watched seemed forever
An eon since I’d saw her go
I’d dreamt of us being together
But still, she walked out my door

I look at the wine glass, now broken
Scattered, like jewels in the night
And I remember the words I had spoken
And I knew I was not in the right

My mind drifted back to around seven
To the restaurant, where I waited for her
when she walked in, well I was in heaven
For the lord had answered my prayer

She told me her name was Irene
I said I’m Paul as I kissed her hand
I’m thinking, she liked what she’s seeing
Which made me, one happy man

As we ate we stared at each other
with passion so full of desire
She told me of her sister and brother
I Said I’ve a flat with a roaring fire

I asked, if she would come home with me
She said yes. for one small nightcap
After that well we’ll just have to see
Which made me one happy chap

We Snuggled up close, on the sofa
A glass of red wine now in our hands
I leaned across and I kissed her
My butterflies doing handstands

I told her that she was so beautiful
As I Whispered sweet nothings in her ear
I said I’m falling for you Eileen
That’s when she pushed me well clear

What are you doing, She shouted
what in the hell is your game
I’ll not give it to you, She pouted
You can’t even remember my name

I said, I really know your name
As sure as I know that mines Paul
I said Marlene That’s what they call you…
And that’s when the glass hit the wall

So here I am alone sitting
because I made one stupid gaffe
And my sides, well my sides they are splitting
Coz all you can do is laugh

The next time I have a Blind date
I’ve a plan that’s right on the money
No matter what her name is
I’m just gonna call her hunny
