More pet thoughts

Yesterday my nephew asked me to help him take his dogs to the vet. The dogs are big, two mastiffs and a malamute, so he needed to take them in my van. He waited in the van in the parking lot with the dogs, while I waited in the vet’s office for our turn to be called. They were real busy in there. It’s a long time since I went to a vet. I was interested in how many exotic pets people seem to keep these days. There was a lady with a ferret, a couple with an elderly iguana, some kids with a boxful of lizards. There were of course, the usual dogs and cats. But the most surprising thing I saw was a woman with a pair of hens. These chickens looked like any old chicken you’d see on a chicken farm. But these were her pets. She must have loved them a lot because I heard the receptionist tell her that the bill came to one thousand dollars. One thousand dollars to fix a pair of chickens!! I’m on a fixed income right now, and that just really floored me to hear that. I guess people love what they love, and it was worth it to her.

  1. Hi Lou, make no mistake, budgie, hen, cat, dog….. whatever your pet…… no one ever emerges from the vets a richer person………except the vet himself…..xx

  2. Several times I have heard Loud1 has mentioned about his income that is poor and destitute, oh dear, sounds like he is a sore person, the people that have spent vast some of money to pay for the vet expenses for their pets is entirely up to what people cost to, it is a clearly love to take care for their pets, yet at the same time, some people pander to pets to ridiculous as a a status symbol and squander to money on pets. when you pay for fees that are necessary to the medical needs for the pet is one thing but indulge to pets just to make then feel about themselves is pure vanity. Give a rest Loud1 on your meagre income, a vast lot of people in less impoverished in other countries are worse of.

  3. I knew a couple who adopted a small piglet as a house pet,can you imagine that ?
They were in a quandary as to what to call it and they even wanted to name its little piggy house.I suggested they call piggy Yum and its abode Freezer, they didnt like that.I agree with you Lou,to spend $1000 on a couple of chooks is ludicrous, what did they have done ?,maybe a chicken breast implant,a podiatry treatment and descaling of feet or a chicken wash and feather combing ?.I fail to see how people can become attached to animals to such an extent, but,I`m sure a vet would try and convince otherwise.
