Moors Murders

I am not one to get affected by news stories, probably because as a former Police Officer, I dealt with so many sad events but I have to say, the death of Winnie Johnson, mother of Keith Bennett has upset me. I hoped against hope for many years, that she would find peace of mind and her sons remains would be discovered so that she could give him a decent burial. I don’t think anybody, unless in a similar situation could ever imagine what it was to wake up every day knowing her sons remains were somewhere. How on earth did she survive for so long?. I feel the bile rise in my throat every time I think that that monster who survived all the parents of the ones he murdered, is living in, and lets not beat about the bush here, considerable luxury, in a “mental hospital”. He has no doubt been playing mind games with doctors – and his victims families – for years and I feel so angry about the whole situation, that I am sure, should he have been “examined” today no psychiatrist would find him insane, but thoroughly evil . If ever there was a case for bringing back the death penalty, and I would be the first to vote it in,this is one where the switch should be flicked,
RIP Winnie and the other victims, in the knowledge you are at last reunited.

  1. Thank you for your blog illgner and I agree totally with the biggest part of it, except for the death penalty part, you see Ian Brady wants to die, and has been fighting for his ‘right’ to take his own life for years.. I hope that is forever denied to him, i hope he lives to be 120, and suffers every day of it. And when his time comes to leave this earth plane, I hope he is shown exactly the same amount of compassion as he showed all those years ago to his poor victims, and as he has shown since to their families. Finally when he makes it to the other side, I hope he remains forever in hell. Sorry for this outburst and I am sure it will provoke comment, but you see I have major problems with forgiveness when it comes to the likes of him, and many others like him, I pray constantly for help to overcome this, but so far it hasn’t arrived

  2. Thanks Tania and jcb1 for your comments.Friendlya, it was just as I finished the blog that the programme came on about Brady and the mind games he has constantly played with victim for the past 60 odd years. I don’t think for one second you have a problem with forgiveness. There are people who are unforgivable and as far as I am concerned there is too much pink and fluffy airy – fairyness going around anyway, talking about forgiveness, mainly orchestrated by people who have never had anything that major happen to them.It is a very personal thing anyway so please never beat yourself up about a perfectly rational conclusion. The programme tried to paint a picture of Brady actually suffering…His advocate made a good job of flim- flamming about everybody’s right to dignity and how force feeding somebody for many years was not pleasant!!.This man alienated so many top psychiatrists, that they were unable to deal with him during assessment and as such, had to err on the side of caution and have him committed from the prison regime to a mental health institution. Not a bad move there, own room, TV, mod cons, charmed life because he was “criminally insane”(he would not co-operate) They say there is a very fine line between a brilliant mind and insanity. I am with you in as much as I believe perpetrators like Brady should suffer every day of their existence but then again, I listened to the victims families who said that they could not start to live a life until Brady is dead and that being the case, it was a damn shame the British abolition of the death penalty happened whilst they were on remand – or never abolished anyway -which would have meant both these monsters would not have cost the systems tens of millions over the years.and the families could have tried to get on with a life instead of being the end of Bradys constant pranks and torment. ………..I, and I know I am not alone here, do not believe for one minute, that Myra Hindley is dead. I am not a great conspiracy theorist or anything like that but consider this. She was long overdue for release and the Home Secretary who made decisions like this at the time, was quickly running out of options to keep her incarcerated what with the constant involvement of the Human Rights Act and other European legislation taking over our daily lives. I don’t think it took a genius to work out that she would be killed upon her release and it would be impossible to release her with her face known – even in senior years as she was in an open prison and pictures of her surfaced regularly in newspapers. She had no hiding place, so what would be the logical answer?.They were struggling to keep her in, but how could they let her out? The most famous case of “a new life” is Robert Thompson and Jon Venables but I doubt they are recognisable now from the fresh faced youths they were. A lot harder with Hindley and her face. Also persons under the “witness protection scheme” are given a new life, identity and in cases, undergo cosmetic surgery to move away from extreme danger here or elsewhere. You think you may cause a controversy, well I think that the American death penalty penal system is great. Someone on death row who is expecting to die that day, being told it is deferred and so on and so on for years. That would show Brady that he is not the only one who could play mind games.

  3. I like to think so too Pollie. At least she is released from that everyday torment now. and I am sure they are reunited x
