  • Loss of taste or smell?

I guess we all notice a reduction in taste. Things aint what they used to be. But my Mum lost her sense of taste and smell completely after what was probably covid about 18 months ago. General opinion is that age and going over the year makes it unlikely to come back. We have had a family tag team supporting Mum this year and on the…

That’s interesting. It would sure take just about all the enjoyment out of eating.

    • Sharing your Moms journey is helpful. The doctor put me on mega doses of vitamin D and I can smell better especially a musty smell so my Febreeze gets used more often and my clothes get washed more often. Smell and taste is essential to protect us from spoiled food and germy, nast things. Otherwise, your Mum needs to follow routines of a…

    • Well I think exercise & change are the way to power things up. Swimming every morning for the past 3 weeks. Another 2lbs off and another inch off the waist after things had slowed down a bit. Also great for my head. All change again this weekend. I wonder what my next chapter will bring???

        • Tjay, that is like me on my rowing machine. I looked over at one woman and then asked her if she had used it before and she said no and I helped her a bit and then we chatted, chatted, and chatted and rowed some.

      • Can I respectfully request that ‘heavy discussion’ re how the site functions is taken away from the book club. Maybe to Members suggestions feedback group would be more appropriate.

This group is for light hearted chat about books. Please🙏

      • Are we back to people having to connect before they can PM?

        • @tjay I dont think so. I have members pm me that I am not connected to. But, members do have a choice in settings to tick if you only want connections to be able to pm you.

        • @tjay true. Plus you done the right thing by asking. Some wont ask , just complain lol But if you dont ask you wont know 🙂 At times no one knows the answer.

        • I have returned to my swimming. Used to lane swim everymorning before work (9 years ago). My hourly rate is down by almost a half. I was shocked. I consider I live quite an active life style and swim all summer in the sea. But I dip in and out and do the ocassional longer swim. Its not like pounding up and down the pool. Also 9 years older 😱.…

        • So spending time with my 93 year old Mum this next few weeks. A serious fall has challenging both her living alone and all the family continuing our own lives all many miles away. How to restore her confidence in her ability to be independent. And at the same time get some inhome support to help her but also reassure us. Lessen the guilt of…

@tjay some decisions are hard to make. Hard for your Mum to accept help when she has been so independent. I had my Mum live with me for 10 years. There was 5 siblings I had. Plan was Mum would stay with each of us for 6 months. I was first. Everyone else changed their mind. Told me to keep her out of a nursing home as it would chew into…

No it’s not a selfish pipedream. It can be hard though and yes also tugs at heartstrings a bit too. My Dad has ample opportunities to mix and mingle locally to him, but he chooses not to despite our encouragement. So it’s a balancing act yes, to be able to life your life while ensuring they are okay as well.

          • Well I finally hit those scales. 11 pounds off in 3 months. Wanted a stone would have settled for 1/2 so pretty chuffed. That was after 2 days travelling with less than ideal food. Due to availability and a fabulous welcome by mates; which resulted in lots of food and drink. I made some healthy choices and enjoyed the others without too…

That’s very nearly a pound a week which is a superb job. Well done you. I’m hoping for similar success too, with ten weeks time as the first target 👍

            • I hope I can lose a few pounds also, but now with my exercise and smoothies, it may be easier. Guys, make sure you eat something before a workout. I just learned that and went on an empty stomach Now I love a smoothie . I learned that from my OT body building grandson. I may really get into this body building. I want to do a 5 mile rave next year.
