Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Celebrations

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday. I have planned to celebrate it, because I plan to celebrate just about anything and everything. I believe Trouble will find you but you have to make your own fun. For some people, there are serious religious reasons for Mardi Gras and Lent. Religion can spawn celebrations that are almost opposite of their original purpose. We need holidays, celebrations, rituals as a way of adding more variety to our life.

I know sometimes I and you may just want peace and quiet and I don’t claim I get the balance right, but I do think we older people need to grab the gusto. I met a 94 year old woman today who looks and acts years younger than her age. She says she goes out every chance she gets. The oldest people I know go out often in spite of many illnesses and other complications. They participate and celebrate at every opportunity so I feel this may just be a good thing to do.

I am planning to learn to dance which will add to my social life a lot. My parents did not believe in dancing and I have to shake my discomfort. I only follow religion that makes sense to me. We all may need to shake a lot of inhibitions and just get going and have some fun. I want to be a better person, but I do think the world is full of trouble, we don’t need to make more for ourselves and we do need to try to enjoy life and that takes some effort, but it is worth it.
