Just Sayin’!!!

I need to have a blood draw tomorrow for a protime. When a hospital gets so big, they are absorbed into a conglomerate that you cannot find the telephone number online, God forbid you are old fashioned and check the paper telephone book from when the dinosaur’s walked the earth, you call the main number of the hospital, subsequently get transferred 8 times, no that was not a typo – eight times just to get to the main laboratory! Excuse me its not called the Lab anymore…it is Testing Services. I surely must be old…I remember when I knew my doctor’s support staff by their first names and they mine. I remember when I knew the number to the closest hospital – a single entity catholic (no emphasis on catholic just happened the catholic versus Lutheran was closer) hospital where the operator would gladly connect you to the department or patient or nurse’s station you wanted. With great sadness, I remember when my pharmacist knew everybody by their first name and greeted them accordingly – made you feel safe and confident when handed your medicine. I worked in a small neighborhood pharmacy when my children were in grade school, they are now in their late 30’s; I remember attending funeral services of customers from the pharmacy. So many, priceless things are long gone, others have become so idiotically complicated such as making an appointment for a blood draw. I miss my world from days gone by, do you too?

  1. With you there. Helen. Computers were supposed to make things so much easier and quicker. My experience is that they have slowed things down, put a barrier between service and the service provider (tech speak, damnit) and made everything so impersonal that no-one gives a toss anymore.

Not good. Not an improvement and NOT steps forward, rather steps backward.

  2. oh! hels , it,s bad enough having bloods drawn without that cufuffle, we have a different system here, we go to our local hospital our Drs, receptionist make the appointment and we just go along and wait our turn , nothing complicated just go as early as possible to get in and out, I do hope you are going to be o,k, (((hugs))). hate having blood drawn.

  3. We do have a great health system Lani. I went to the Drs the other day after one hour I saw a Dr got sent to xray, had that done within 30 minutes. Got the report within 5 minutes. Back up to the Drs upstairs seen the Dr within 5 mins. All bulk billed all free drs visit and xrays…….

  4. I am jealous Lani and Grams!!! Why do we complicate things that are already working??? Thank you for the well wishes Lani – have a blood clot in the leg I broke. Grams, how did you foot turn out? Best wishes for a quick recovery. xxx

  5. Recorded answers and choice trees that never give on to a human are hateful things, aren’t they?
I am blessed though as to blood tests. The VA has an efficient system although I must drive about 12 miles to their clinic. Otherwise the private doctor I see is in a system that does blood work about a mile from my house. I hope non-surgical treatment of your clot is a success. Goodness knows you’ve been under the knife enough for a lifetime. OB
