Joe Lycett, Year 10, pens ‘An Ode to the Titanic’
The Titanic was classed as completely ‘unsinkable’
The thought of it sinking was completely unthinkable
The best ship that our planet has ever seen
From bow to stern, completely pristine
The finest of passengers from across the land
Everything about it was perfect and grand.
As the vessel progressed onto the calm, blue sea
The mood on board was that of excitement and glee.
The captain was worried of the dangers ahead
The owner insisted he pushed on instead.
No wanting to upset him, the captain agreed
He forced the engines to go full speed.
The ship charged into the foggy night
Unaware of the iceberg waiting out of sight
A mountain of ice came into view
The alarm was raised but there was nothing they could do
The ship swerve vigorously to avoid its fate
But the captain knew it was far too late.
The ice ripped through the hull like it was an old tin can
In flooded the water showing no mercy for man
The band played on as the crew stood defiant
Convinced nothing could sink this iron giant
After a while it was plain to see
The ‘unsinkable’ was never meant to be.
The poor down below were locked in a certain grave
The lifeboats too few, the rich were gave
Desperate, with no choice people jumped in the water
Every man, woman, son and daughter
The ship, at one end, snapped in two.
Unheard of before the Titanic’s debut
The captain’s face was riddled with pain
On its maiden voyage, the best was slain.

Happy you enjoyed it forever. 🙂
Lovely, poignant poem about that majestic, ill-fated, maiden voyage of the S.S. Titanic. I love the movie, “Titanic”, too. Thank you for sharing this, Shadow. Bright Blessings, Faerie
Thank you for reading it faerie. Yes, i also like the film. I didn’t think it would surpass the original version ” A Night To Remember!. They were different in their own way,” A night to remember” was more about the Titanic…”Titanic” was based more on a love story…Both were great films. 🙂 🙂
There was a film about the Titanic, with Clifton Webb in it, as I recall. That one was pretty good too. It might be the one you mentioned, “A Night To Remember”. Thanks again, Shadow. Faerie
