Jingle Bells or One Horse Open Sleigh

Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
Over the fields we go,
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring,
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Chorus:
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

2. A day or two ago,
I thought I’d take a ride,
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank,
And we, we got upsot.
Chorus:
3. A day or two ago,
The story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
He laughed as there I sprawling lie,
But quickly drove away.
Chorus:

4. Now the ground is white
Go it while you’re young,
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
Two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you’ll take the lead.
Chorus:
Happy christmas Senior Chatters. 😀 😀

  1. Oh thank you for the reminder of this song. I got curious and thought it was mostly American but it is American and I guess it has traveled over the world. I sang it as a child and still remember most all of the words. Interesting thought. the author gave the world this song, but like many poets and artists of all kinds, he failed at many things that made money in his own life. This author also wrote a much less well known song about running away from debts and I will try to cut and paste it here if I can manage the time and tech of all that. SC is a good place to learn about all sorts of things.

  2. I never though to look up the Author Rose? That is one of my biggest down falls 🙁 I hope you learn to Copy & paste? i am so glad i did…saves a lot of time believe me. Thank you for your contribution Rose . 😀
