INTERESTING HISTORICAL FACT

In the year 1853 a washer woman, in the small village of Corumandel, Brazil, picked up an unusual looking stone by the river side, and gave it to her mistress Carolina, wife of the Baron Irineu Osorio de Morais. (Baron was an honorary title given, in those days, to large land owners who dominated the politics of their area). It turned out to be the second largest diamond ever found in Brazil. He named it Estrela do Sul (Star of the South). It’s history is free of intrigues and murders which are so prevalent among the largest diamonds of the World.

This brilliant blue diamond now adorns the Crown of the Reigning Monarchs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

In honour of this diamond, Corumandel was renamed and became the picturesque town of “Estrela do Sul,” in the District of Bagagem, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

So if you ever visit the Tower of London, and view the Crown Jewels, take a look at the royal crown and notice the blue diamond on its highest point – that diamond, my friends, came from Brazil!

  1. Loved both your stories jojo. The haunted house and the Diamond. Thankyou. I,ve seen replicas of the Crown Jewels when Iwas about 13. My brother and I rode our bikes into Rockhampton, where the Crown Jewels were on display at some building or other. They were amazing.
