I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE TIME WHEN…

I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE TIME WHEN

Decisions were made by going “eeny-meeny-miney-mo.”
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming “do over!”

“Race issues” meant arguing about who ran the fastest.
Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in “Monopoly.”

Catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening.
It wasn’t odd to have two or three “best” friends.

Being old referred to anyone over 20.
The net on a tennis court was the perfect height to play volleyball and rules didn’t matter.

The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was “cooties”.
It was magic when dad would “remove” his thumb.

It was unbelievable that dodgeball wasn’t an Olympic event.
Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot.

Nobody was prettier than Mom.
Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the “big people” rides at the amusement park.
A foot of snow was a dream come true.

Abilities were discovered because of a “double-dog-dare.” Saturday morning cartoons weren’t 30-minute ads for action figures.

No shopping trip was complete unless a new toy was brought home.
“Oly-oly-oxen-all-in-free” made perfect sense.

Spinning around, getting dizzy, and falling down was cause for giggles. The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.

War was a card game.
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.

Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.

Ice cream was considered a basic food group.
Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest protectors.

If you can remember most or all of these, then you have had a great life….

  3. Glad you enjoyed it Deb…Yes, so true what you say…some kids get away with too much these days…you have to wonder how they’re going to make it when they enter the workforce, when they don’t show respect to adults when they are teens! ….Thanks for the reminder of the group Remember When!…will be fun to revisit the posts!

  4. I’m not going to say all but some of the people youngsters look up to now as ‘heros’ I’m not surprised!!!

  5. I have watched films and TV programmes which are supposed to be passed by “The Censor”.

There have been various times when I have seen portrayed clearly on these shows both martial arts and military methods of killing and maiming without weapons. It shocked me, but having thought about it I think I understand why now.

Until recently, in the UK anyway, Censors would have been of an age to have done ,military service and, if they had not been taught these techniques would certainly have been aware of them, and would have said “NO. you cannot show this”.

The younger men and women in these positions now never saw national service. May never have taken part in any martial arts club and are therefore ignorant of what they are actually seeing.

They don’t understand what is happening so they don’t react and stop it.

It is sad when those supposed to protect do not have the knowledge to do the job they are employed to do.

  6. Yes, Way..very sad. Here in the US, TV programming is lacking proper censors as well. There is far, far too much inappropriate material on television, including the commercials!

  7. Kate , Really enjoyed reading this blog and thanks for sharing it with us and yes it did take me down mrmory lane and I miss those days growing up in the 40’s and 50’s in Greencastle , Pa. a very small town of 2000.

    1. Glady that you enjoyed it Marie! I grew up in a small town also and it felt so very safe. Everyone knew everyone else…simpler times…good memories.

  8. Loved it katelin – best days of our lives in hindsight. What are “cooties” lol –
I think the likes of “Facebook” and “Youtube” have allowed the younger generation to display inappropriate material to everyone, and as Way has pointed out how old are the “censors/moderators” here. The mind boggles as to what the future holds!!

  9. Love it Katalin! and what you have written can be used as a visualisation to which your body will react to. I have written a book on the subject and you can de-age and regain heath and vitality by using just those kinds of thoughts that you have written. Robert

  10. Katelin. Amazing how many of these things most of us remember, but there was a whole lot more going on. We should remember the good stuff and try to share it with the young ones. We should also remember issues like NO birth control, domestic violence, deprivation of basic necessities, parents who were very harsh and even abusive. There was also racism, sexism, segregation, Mccarthyism. These may be THE BEST OF TIMES. Really.
Were we allowed to talk to OUR parents at all?
