“Hook….Line….&…Sisters

“Hook, Line And Sisters.”

Coming from a family of 10 girls has always been an adventure most of the time embarrassing adventures. Several lines have been cast over the years to hook a sister and pull her into a devious plan. Like the time my older sisters were in need of a certain feminine product and told one of the younger girls she would be going to the store for a box of candy. She didn’t really want to go but she grabbed the note they had written for her to give to the clerk at the store and off she went on her bicycle. They put her into a situation that they were to shy to face themselves. After a while. They could hear her coming down the street on her bicycle singing “she’ll be coming round the mountain when she comes she’ll be coming round the mountain, when she comes”, you should have seen the older sisters scatter like ants on a ant hill screaming into the house as the younger sister appeared with a box of Kotex balancing on her head as she sang and came towards them. That was one time I was glad I was the youngest girl. I had no idea what was going on. There were four of us to young to understand what all the fuss was about. We were like deer in the headlights “What, what’s going on” My poor mother being such a shy person herself brought a towel out of the house grabbed the box, wrapped the towel around it and went inside. Now how many neighbors thought a family of ten girls didn’t need female products???? Oh the times were different then. The older sisters caught the devil for placing the younger one in such a situation. The neighbor up the street came to see my mom after that incident. She said the whole neighborhood had such a show as my sister riding the bike while balancing had dropped the box off and on all the way down the street. Everyone got such a laugh out of it. Everyone over the age of puberty. The rest of us once again were shown in this family you have to beware of hooks, lines, and sisters.

  1. Thank goodness some things have changed in that respect, young parents today are a lot more open about discussing personal issues and problems, hence the children are more likely to go to them for advice instead of hearing all sorts of rubbish off friends…..xx

  2. That sounds soooo funny !!
You write so beautifully I have all this images in my head of what it would be like to have 10 daughters ! I have two sons ,and a grandson , I would have loved to have a girl in my small family … But 10 ? Maybe not ….lol

  3. Just a small anecdote here.
When I was a young plumbing apprentice, I was left behind at an elementary school, to do plumbing work. When it was noon, I had my lunch box and since I was working in the basement, I stopped and noticed a few packages from an open box in the storeroom with “sanitary napkin” “serviette sanitaire” written on it. There was no other markings.
I figured I’d open one to clean my soiled hands. Well I got a surprise. Not exactly the kind of napkin that you would hang from your neck, that’s for sure!
Just one of the many surprises to come in my life. Never a dull moment.
