Honeymoon Houseboat.

Honeymoon Chapter two
Hope you enjoy this last chapter of my honeymoon.

Boating on the beautiful lake, nothing but blue as far as the eye could see.The water as clear as the blue skies above,oh this is the life for me.Laying in the sun as it warms my body, not a single person around, except my new husband oh now this is a honeymoon. Why ever did I have doubts about the pleasures it would bring to me .Yes its a wonderful way to spend a day,all the fears of yesterday gone now.

Then I hear Frank ask me
“Kathy do you know where we are on this map?” oh that dreaded question .
“No Frank you’r driving not me dear” just knew he didn’t know what he was doing,I was lulled into a false sense of security there.
“Oh it does’t matter we can just moor here awhile longer and I’ll work it out.” Oh yes you will,by magic, just see a dot appear on the map saying,
“We are here dear don’t worry” not worrying I am just sure it was something that I said yesterday, and you told me
“We will just turn around and go back”, remember that dear? Well cant just turn around can you ,as its a Big lake, nothing is marked this way back at all.Oh how ever are we going to get back, can see us here and a search party looking for us.Headlines read Honeymoon Couple lost on lake.

As luck would have it a boat came by.Frank leaned out the cabin window,as people always do and yelled out,
“Hey do you know where we are mate” a look of “Oh my God what have we here “
appeared on his face as he stopped the boat, with him and a few children onboard.
“What is the problem mate” he asked “Can you tell us where we are“ asked Frank again.
“So you’r lost” he asked, yes I thought people always stop you in the middle of a big lake and ask where they are .
“Yes pretty much so” said Frank.
“Well just wait here till I take the kids home and I’ll come back and help you ok?” with that he started the engine and took off skimming across the lake.I sat there thinking he will not be back, why should he,nut let loose on the lake, could be anyone.

True to his word half hour later he returned tied up and jumped abourd. We introduced ourselves to John and he started to show us where we were on the map, explaining things more as he went along. We chatted away and later Frank told him we were on our honeymoon. The whiskey bottle came out drinks to the newly married couple, few more and they were getting on fine, soon forgot about the new wife as they chatted about the world affairs.I busied myself getting a meal together, and our new guest was soon invited, didn’t look as if he was leaving anyway, and the bottle was getting lower.

Dinner was very nice, second night of marriage and already three of us.I sat at the front of the boat not really listening to them just enjoying my after dinner drink.I looked out the window behind me and thought
:”TREES “ how is that possible in the middle of a lake,I must be dreaming,so I look ed again,no definitely trees,I say to Frank,
“You know there are trees out this window” he looked at me not really taking a lot of notice of me,and says
“Yes Kathy ok” and continues talking and by now they were well into solving the woes of the world, single handed.“Frank “ I said “there are a lot of people in among the trees and boats as well, you best have a look I think”with that John looked at him and said,
“You did put the anchor out didn’t you”
“Of course I did what you think I am an idiot.”Well I am not saying anything, but where this boating is concerned, you could say you are.
With that they rushed outside to see, we had drifted onto the shore. There was a very high tide and an eclipse at the time,a few boats had also been washed up on the bank as well. The people were all around looking to see what they could do.
John said to Frank
“What anchor did you put out,it was the big one wasn’t it?”.
“um no said Frank that was the one I lost in the lake yesterday”.with that John looked at him and said
“Oh it will be fine I’ll jump in my boat and pull you off ok” I thought to myself this could be tricky,as the empty bottle of whiskey stood on the table.along with the remains of the wine. John handed me the rope he had untied, and holding one end, me the other he jumped overboard. Now its middle of winter, about 3 degrees and he goes straight into the water missed the boat completely,I start to pull on the rope thinking
“I am not going in after him,if he isn’t on the end of this rope”.Luckily up he pops and jumps straight into the boat and says
“All ok off we go” started the boat pulled us out into the lake,as if nothing had happened.
He then calls out to us
“Follow me and you can tie up at our jetty be safer, yes safe is the ultimate word here.tonight

Things are feeling so much better to me,as John says
“Come on inside get a warm cup of tea.”Yes firm ground,my feet walk so much better on firm ground,I am sure I was not meant to be a sailor.John sits us in the lounge by a lovely warm open fire,
“I”II just run up get changed and tell the good women you are here”.sounds good to me.
Then I hear voices raised upstairs
“Where have you been, you drop the kids after school then disappears till all hours ,come home drenched to the skin this is not the time of year to go swimming what have you been doing”.
“Well I was helping”
“Get out of here go on”with that John came running down the stairs the conversation from him and his wife best leave now as it was deteriorating fast.I looked at Frank said
“Think we best leave” he just stood up as John ran past his wife following behind her mouth still telling him what she thought of him.
We said” Bye John thanks” and ran out the door ,climbed aboard the boat and burst out laughing.
Laying in the bunk later I thought about the second day of my honeymoon and smiled thinking “I am in for a great life here I think, just hope none of it will be on water again”.

  3. Mac loved it and really what a honeymoon you had . I thought it was really funny but you were lucky to have John come along and rescue you both. I sure didn’t have a honeymoon like your’s. My daughter and her husband took his boat out on the Chesapeake Bay and went down to St. Michael on the Eastern Shore on their honeymoon, but they didn’t get lost. 🙂

  4. We have something in common, I spent my honeymoon on a sailboat. We crossed the bay and when we were just about half way across a big storm came up. My husband was a good sailor, but I knew nothing! The boat was speeding across the bay with us tilted enough that I was standing up with feet on the cockpit side holding on for dear life! I spent my time looking at markers or small oil platforms thinking that if the boat capsized I would swim to the this one or that one. Always keeping one in sight! Once we make it across the bay and anchors. I said to heck with eating or drinking…I collapsed in the bunk and prayed that tomorrow there would be no wind and we would have to motor home! Girl. I so understand what you are talking about!
