Holidays, New Year and so What is it all about for you?

First, you see the title and this is about all that needs to be said. I would like to know how you go about holidays and your new year. We all have a new year and most of us celebrate some religious holidays or holidays of some sort. Any celebrations of any kind can be included.
I am in a mostly Christian country and Christmas will be all around you whether you are in that faith or tradition or not. We have some discussing and complaining about needing to say Happy Holiday instead of Merry Christmas. They do not seem to get that. Merry Christmas is offensive to some people. You do not hear Jews or Muslims wishing people a happy rosh hashanah or happy Ramadan. In order to get along they do not inflict their beliefs on others who do not share them. We all have our traditions and I will celebrate most holidays and traditions of people of various faiths, if I am invited or in a situation that is appropriate. They and I both know that I don’t share their faith, but I respect it and a new year starts every day so anytime anyone wants to start theirs is fine with me. All the celebrations have added depth to my own awareness of a new year and what it can mean.
My house had 3 trees and I celebrate Christmas with my Christian friends and family, which many of them are. I take a new year very seriously, because I have survived the last one and I hope to make this one better for me and others. I fell sleep at about 9:30 and woke up to hear fireworks going off, but I ate my deviled eggs, and shrimp cocktail and shared some libation and proceed to jump up and make a traditional southern USA dinner, because it is all good fun and helps to keep life eventful.
Life would be pretty dreary without celebrations. I am planning two birthday parties this month and to visit a friend in the nursing home for her birthday. I am grabbing some gusto this year and I hope that I am helping others do it also. I also want to welcome more people into a circle of friendship and respect. That is what holidays and special days mean to me and how I celebrate and they are sacred but not necessarily Holy. I just love SC and my other favorite social media site because we can shine our light and see the light of others, and it sure beats fumbling around in the dark by ourselves. Best wishes to one and all for a great new year.

  1. Traditionally the new year is supposed to be a time of anticipation, looking forward to it bringing all good things and happiness, all the bad stuff that happened in the previous year will be no more……..but……..lets get real here, we have all lived long enough to know that whatever year we are in there will be some sadness and worries, but things to celebrate too……..some celebrate their birthdays, and yes I suppose we should all be thankful that we are still around to do so……..many would change places with us………..myself I prefer not to count the years, have said it before and will say it again, take me back to my youth, but I do not dwell on that, no point, its not the mileage on the clock that counts, its how the time was spent clocking it up ……..just keep the engine ticking over ……….. try to get the most out of your day by doing the things you enjoy, which for me just happens to be getting out and about everyday, preferably into the countryside………spending time with my family who are my life………whatever gives you the most pleasure in life is what it is all about, help others where you can, a reward in itself…….may you all enjoy your life however you choose to spend it………xx

  2. So many different traditions and celebrations during the holiday season. To each his own. The New Year is a chance for change and a time for reflection on the past. We can’t undo what has been done or said but we can strive to do better in the future.

  3. For me Rose this new year means a new start and I have decided to concentrate on only good things. Like Star says not so good things happen but the trick is not to let them bother you too much.

  4. What a brilliant post Rose…I agree, each to their own with whatever traditions you all have… I feel well blessed to have what I have and appreciate every single day of each year. 🙂 🙂
