Holiday Season?

I keep putting this in as Christmas approaches because I think we all need reminding that when we are having fun with family and friends there are some among us who have no-one except their cyber friends, some don’t even have that, so here it is once again.

I make no apology for re-posting. It needs saying, time and again until the message gets through, not just to people on here, but the world at large. We ARE our brothers and sisters keepers. If the opportunity comes up, rise to it.

Some of you will have seen this before from me. The new ones won’t have.

“With the holiday season coming up, there will be many people whose only company over the ā€œfestiveā€ season will be those they find in the rooms on this site. They have no family, no friends, or at least none who have time for them at this time of year.

So if you happen to come in here over the holiday and find someone sat in a chat room, donā€™t be too quick to run off back to your friends, family and festivities. Stay, talk for, oh, say 5 minutes, before you run off.

You might just make that personā€™s day. You might just save that personā€™s life.

Always remember that the holiday season is also the suicide season.”

  1. Absolutely spot on. Princess Diana was another one who spoke time and time again about loneliness. She also made the point of reminding people that you can be surrounded by people, married, or putting on a brave face, but incredibly lonely. Christmas time especially, when it is widely believed everybody ” should” be happy and excited. It is a killer.

  2. Way, thank you so much for the reminder that for some people, our site isn’t just a social event, but a very vital part of their lives. I’ve been alone at this time of the year, and it feels that Christmas is happening for everyone else but you. It really can be a soul destroying time, and we do need to think about other people.
I don’t do chat rooms, I think I’d feel whimpy and a bit scared to do so, being honest…but I promise I will make time to chat to anyone around over the holidays.
Once again, thank you for your care and good sense.
