Good to be back

Hello everyone!

I have been away from the site for quite a long time and a lot has happened in my life since then.

I logged in to find some of my poems I’ve posted here a few years ago, and I was delighted to see a few familiar names and /or faces still active on here, that made me feel a warmth I did not expect! It feels like I’m returning home after a long trip!

I’ve turned seventy this year! and although I know I still look good for my age there are days when I feel like ninety!

In January this year I celebrated my birthday cruising around Antarctica, It was an amazing experience! We were lucky to have come back home before the coronavirus pandemic was declared!

That trip sealed ten years of traveling.

Now, as my next project I would like to write a family history book, or a memoirs, or even a combination of the two, I don’t know, something to leave to my sons to pass on to the next generations.

Have any of you chatters done a project like that? If so some tips would be much appreciated.

I hope you are all keeping well, here in Melbourne we are on stage four lockdown,is not easy but it seems to be working.

Cheers for now.

  1. Welcome back nmod.
My mother did a story on her parents and all descendants. She made binders with printed pages and pictures for her 2 sisters and brother. The rest of the family received a Word document that can be printed.
It is a great item for a coffee table.

    1. Thank you David, great idea! I always wanted my mom to write her story, but she never did. I guess like me she probably didn’t know where to start or how to organise it.
I’m writing something everyday, the hard part is editing, what to include and what to leave out. I’d like it to be informative but also interesting and fun.

  2. Welcome back nmod………re the book, i guess the thing to do is to speak to as many relatives as you can….ask about family members no longer here, the ones still around i am sure will have little stories and memories about times passed….its a little bit harder cos many will be very aged by now i would think…….but even younger members of the family may recall sayings of their grandparents, aunts and Uncles…..good luck….

    1. Thank you Starlette.
I wish I started this 10 years ago! Because in my family, the older generation have all passed away, Making my generation the oldest alive! Quite scary thought really!…

    1. Thank you GJ. I do have lots of photos but they are all quite similar, water, ice and penguins. Photos don’t really give credit to the awesomeness of the place! It is spellbinding beautiful!

    1. Thank you! How are you going? It is a long time since I’ve been active on here. I have a 6 year old grandson who has become my best little friend, ?.
He comes to visit often and is really full on when he is around. He is a school boy now, things are getting easier as he grows older.

      1. I’m going okay – have had my ups and downs. It’s nice to see some of the “oldies” back on SC – so many have left which is rather sad.
Enjoy your grandson, they grow up so quickly. Take care xoxo
