Good News. Eat and fight depression

It seems that we are a bit old and tired and we want to take it easy and we are having trouble with even that. This might interest you. Most all healthy food, grains, meats, fruits and veggies, all have a lot of tryptophan which has a calming effect and triggers the feel-good phase in the brain. Also, maintaining your food supply, keeps your blood sugar stable and helps the good mood and equilibrium. So eating regularly and eating most any healthy food may change your life.

Finally, I can say that I can do that. I can try that, I am sure. This is GOOD NEWS in the midst of the no-nos we hear all the time. Cashews are supposed to be loaded with tryptophan. I can sprinkle a few cashews on almost any dish like the Chinese takeaways here. I can make sure the tank stays more than half full just like my auto and I don’t think I will run out of gas. This sounds like fun. I really don’t think I will need any additives or cleaners; I don’t put them in my car.

After I maintain the fuel supply with the right foods and a constant supply, who knows what I can or may get done. I am hoping that I won’t be able to sit still. Honest, I heard this good news today and I thought it was worth sharing.

  1. Hi Rose, its said we are what we eat, and I know when I eat extra healthily I certainly can tell……….I have more energy, feel more on a high……although I have to say I don’t suffer from depression thank goodness………maybe the only downside is I don’t feel sleepy early enough, hence the reason I am typing this at gone midnight……….today I have visited a health shop, I have been reading about the benefits of cocoanut oil, well it has many, but the thing is I don’t know how I am going to take it, I know I could not eat it spread on toast or crackers as some do, or put it in a hot drink, I have looked at recipes, no joy for what I like, but all is not lost, it has external benefits too, moisturiser, hair conditioner, body balm……and the list goes on…….but will I ever get to consume the recommended dose of four tablespoons a day…….not a prayer….ugh……

      1. Thankyou Lani for the tips, thing is if I take up baking to get my recommended daily amount, I will be consuming all the sugar and carbs that go along with the goodies, I don’t generally fry foods so wont be using it that way…….but i did mix some with a couple of drops of Lavender essential oils this morning to use as a moisturiser, supposed to rehydrate the skin, we will see………but it does create a nice dewy complexion, but then it would……so would olive oil if I applied that to my face…………..

          1. Hi Rose, I have this big jar of it, it looks like a pot of cocoanut, its set and does not pour, don’t know what would happen to it if I warmed it…….may give it a little zap in the microwave…..

    1. Starlette. Just what is this coconut oil supposed to do? Will bakers coconut work. I love that and I just added that to my trail mix that I usually put on my cereal. I read about coconut milk and will have to use that or go to a Thai restaurant. I did see 101 uses for coconit oil, but I am curious why you need 4 tablespoons a day.

    2. Well I have tested the cocoanut oil out as a hair conditioner………has anyone any idea how many times I will have to shampoo my hair to restore it to its former glory……… and stop it resembling an oil slick……..Oh Lordy……but it does shine, but so would anything coated in oil…….lol

  2. Hi Rose,

    tryptophan as you write is called L Tryptophan and is just nothing else than essential amino acid which is to be found in;

sugarless cocoa powder, cashew nuts, pistachios, chicken breast, peas,
pork, salmon, porridge oats, walnuts, chicken egg, red rice, cornmeal,
    cow’s milk a.s.o.

Sorry I say this from a distance; anything that brings stress into your life in the USA reflects to the American way of Life.

    – Must have, must go, must buy, must wear, must drive, must see a.s.o.

You are fighting a psychological warfare in the USA caused by the word
*** must *** such as sleepless nights, stress, etc.

Replace the word must by the word ++ must not ++ in your society and you’re on the way to a better life.

Which could begin with home grown food and home cooked meals by the use of those products mentioned above. Good luck to this Michael

  3. I have coconut oil in my food cupbourd, and use it occasionally if I want to panfry something…I tried taking it neat as an oil and using it elsewhere, but i find the lingering aftertaste is off putting.
I spose I could try it as a lubricant for my bicycle chain, instead of a spray on silicon….cheaper and easier on the enviroment maybe ?

  4. It is all about moderation in regards to diet. Now stress, that’s a different story. The key there is to simplify. American, European, Australian, Asian, etc. has nothing to do with it. It come done to the choices one makes.
