A friend of mine recently sent me this email regarding the benefits of Lemons,I dont know its validity or dosage but it seemed to me a wonderful way of adding that spice to foods and gaining any benefits from very little effort so I thought I would share this with our chatterers.

  1. But this could only be done with Bio-lemons, but real ones. Any other lemon get waxed and before that they get sprayed with pesticide. Those are the reason why people peel the fruit. Good idea Sylvester, good idea.

    1. Your right Michael I never thought of those that have to buy lemons,here every 2nd or 3rd household have a lemon tree in the backyard and its always easy to get organic lemons from neighbours or friends.I tried it on potato salad last night and it was very nice.

  2. Hi Sylvester, how very interesting, well I have known for years that Lemon juice squeezed into a glass of warm water in the morning is supposedly beneficial……. I infuse whole sliced Lemons with other fruit and veg overnight into a jug of water, it certainly works as far as being a detoxing drink, no waste sitting around in the body as it were…….and I have found that it takes away the craving for sweet food, supposed to have fat burning proprieties along with the other stuff…………well whatever, it cannot harm you so worth a go……..

Interesting sylvester and another way of preserving lemons straight from the tree not brought ones , as michael said their waxed, cut them in half add pure cooking salt for 8 lemon halves add 250 grams salt , in an airtight jar, leave for 2 months , whe you want to use them you cut out the pulp , discard it and dice the rind very finely and use that in your middle eastern cooking or greek or italian , a little is enough , wash the lemon before use and dry … a little goes a long way….. gives a nice flavour to dishes….

    1. Hi Lani,somebody gave me a gift of glazed orange and lemon slices coated in chocolate and i would have to say that it was wonderful and I didnt feel guilty eating them because they were healthy hahahah

    1. Thanks Sweet,Isnt it amazing that the benefits of natural foods/substances aren`t publishised owing to corporate interests.Everytime I cut the grass I shake the lemon tree to mow through the lemons on the ground because I love the fresh smell of them.

  4. This is very Interesting…I use lemon Juice with Warm Water…for the digestive system as and when required….usually in the morning with Breakfast….but noted now about the freezing thing….thanks for the notes on that

  5. We are not as lucky as you Sylvester. Normally we buy common lemons in the supermarket. For use we squeeze them but we have a second use as well. My wife uses the lemon peel for the first clean of the sink. If we had fried fish for lunch or dinner we lie the lemon peel into the empty pan covered it with water an let it boil for a couple of minutes.
    The result; the smell of the fish in the kitchen has gone. One can earn the same result with fresh fish which needs to be scaled. Michael
