I just read this written by a special person. Are you a person who believes that you can look in eyes and see a mirror of the soul? I have never managed to do this but I am going to remember and try it. It is so poetic and I just love it. I guess this is where the shifty eyes are to be avoided, Have your eyes met another’s and you were enchanted and found a good friend and or soulmate. Rose – I believe that the eyes are indeed the mirror of the soul. However I also believe that you need a ‘special gift’ to be able to see and then interpret what you see. Of course, debate could rage on endlessly on this – as with so many ‘beliefs’. At the end of the day it is ultimately about what YOU believe and what you choose to do with that belief.
There are so many variables to take into consideration – for example some cultures do not believe in looking people in the eyes – it is considered offensive. So we could misinterpret someone not looking us in the eyes as being “shifty” or “untrustworthy” when in fact in their culture that is not the case.

You can read so much from the eyes. My kids use to ask me why they had to look me in the eye when I asked them a question. My reply was simply, the lips may lie but the eyes reveal truth. I agree completely Rose. I understand what you mean about having a “special gift” for being able to “see” the real person through their eyes. I have found that I can generally “read” a person by looking into their eyes but whether it is a blessing or a curse, I’m not sure. All I know is that I get that feeling in your gut that makes you feel like you know something but you’re not sure why or how. Sometimes, I feel like I’m being prejudice or unfair and then I feel badly, but then, I generally turn out to be right. And other times, it makes me vunerable because I open up too freely and trusting to someone I barely know.
It’s true what you say about other cultures, some believing that it is impolite, or disrespectful, or sometimes, downright rude to look directly into another’s eyes. But I could suppose some of that belief could be from privacy of self and feeling that it is inappropriate for another to invade that privacy that reveals itself in your eyes.

You do. LOL. I don’t believe you have black eyes. You may have large pupils which indicate something I won’t mention or an unusual condition. I have large pupils but i have blue eyes, so my eyes still don’t look black.

I have no idea about “soul”, but the eyes certainly speak volumes. Fear, uncertainty, avarice, desire, hatred, all can be read in the eyes and that’s before you get into the profiling area where eye movements are an almost certain tell of either truth or, on occasions, immediate intent.
dont know if it is the soul as such, but immediately i see into someones eyes I can tell what their charactor is , not only their eye movements, but the clarity, the way they return their gaze, the pupils dilate if they are telling big fibs,and the body language ,if you look someone directly in the eyes, and I usually look directly into the eyes when I am introduced to a new person.if they shift their gaze, beware.
