Evolution of the human attitude

Whilst reading a blog entitled “Blue language blue cold” recently describing language used in a weather forecast, it started me to pondering the evolution of attitudes from one generation to another. Remembering through out my life you opened doors for ladies ,the elder, and those with special needs. When you spoke to people you spoke respectfully, there was no profanity an/or “saucy” scenes on the television/movies nor the radio. Profanity was used but mostly in gender friendly situations(guy talk, gals used it too),but today it seems the norm. You hear it as if it were a natural part of language (which today it is),and you’ll rarely see one give up their seat/open a door for a lady, the elderly , or even those with special needs. Profanity is used in movies/ television shows along with very “suggestive” scenes. In stores and on the highways/airplanes, it’s always “me first”, few know how to say “thank you/please/excuse me”, it’s a loss language. Leaves one wondering what communication with others be like in another 50 years, or even beyond??

  1. Hi senile, well I have to agree we certainly seem to be living in a different world today than of times gone by, better in some respects but oh sooooo much worse in others…….I read of children in nursery schools who have no communication skills other than a grunt, seemingly because that’s all they hear from their parents who have their heads glued to a mobile phone or are transfixed playing computer games…….. I witness on a regular basis mothers taking their children into supermarket eating areas straight from school, sitting the child down with some rubbish food so the mother can continue playing with their mobiles undisturbed, no conversation takes place between mother and the child, when my two returned from school I used to ask them what they had done that day, listen to them read the books they brought home, read bedtime stories, yes perhaps all things that were not that exciting, but imperative in learning to communicate……….but I will say that all the young are not the same today, bad mannered and the user of vile language…….there are still many who will stand back and open doors…….interestingly enough I find this more among the lads then the girls…….I myself have stood back and held doors open for all ages, and believe you me I could have been stood there all day without a thank you, and I am not talking about the young ones here…..some of the older ones are so rude………I just think by and large if you show respect and are good role models for your children then that will stay with them throughout life……..

  2. Most major religions include a version of the golden rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. The media did have laws about public service and morals were taught in everything so All this cannot have a good effect. Here in the United States many states allow open carry and concealed carry of guns. Now that might cause some respect. Hopefully, the pendulum will swing soon.

    1. I have to think about this. I come from a ranching family. I remember that at one time 90% of us lived on farms. As a male child I seldom remember any time with my mother. Men worked outside, women inside. Living and working on a farm was a 24 hour endeavor. Check the fence, check the stock, feed the stock, count the stock, on and on. At night, the dogs bark. Go outside and see what’s going on.

I would have loved to go to the supermarket after school to watch my mom text.
